    Prayers For Pop

Well Guys...My best fishing buddy is off the water for a little while. August 8 Dad was diagnosed with Multilpe Myeloma Cancer. thats the reason I haven't been posting as much as I normally do. I figured we would get all the facts, meet with doctors etc first. I have talked to a bunch of you guys already and we appreciate all the phone calls and support. It means everything!! Although not cureable but certainly treatable we intend to fight it with all we have. The doctors are optimistic and we are too, pop is hanging in there and has a great attitude. He's pretty tough to knock down!! He has started the Zometa treatments and getting ready to start Revlimid/Dex.

Pop has taught me most of what I know through all the years of fishing. We still to this day use his "old" tricks when nothing else seems to be going right on the water. With family and friends things are rolling along.

So..If you have a free minute or two say a prayer for Pop....

Thanks again for all the support from our SFC family..You guys are the BEST!!

I'd be willing to bet that each of us has a Pops that we learned everything from (on and off the water), and most of us probably take it for granted that he is healthy. I'm sending out many prayers for your Pops dude, and then I'm going to go make a phone call to mine.

Just as a side note, I have worked with many great oncologic surgeons over the last few years, and when I ask them about their patients, they say that one theme that comes up with nearly all of them is that they credit cancer as being one of the best things that has ever happened to them. I know it sounds strange, but these folks say that once they come to terms with it, that they suddenly start to enjoy everything in their lives on a deeper level than they ever have. They start to realize what is really important in life, and what things are meaningless. They start to look at the people and the relationships in their lives in ways they never have. It sounds cliche but they live every day to its fullest. They find freedom in their battle. I hope Pops finds the same peace. Keep fighting the good fight man
