Got a note from Evan's mom. It's been awful nice seeing him out and about playing with the kids in the neighborhood again!![]()
"Evan has completed 5 cycles of antibody therapy at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. Each cycle consists of 5 days of antibody infusion on an outpatient basis, although at times, Evan has had to spend a night inpatient because of fever. It is an intense form of therapy but Evan copes with it as well as can be expected. The antibody treatment will continue until early 2009. He has also completed 3 cycles of Acutane treatment where he takes Acutane for 2 of the 3 weeks that he isn't getting an antibody treatment. He has 3 more cycles of Acutane before he finishes that phase of treatment.
He recently had surgery to remove the Broviac central line that was in his chest (the method of infusion), and had it replaced with a Mediport which lies under the skin. It enables him to avoid having tubes coming out of his chest and lessens the chance of line infection. It also allows him to get his chest wet whether bathing or swimming. It is much more liberating, especially for a 4 year old. Speaking of age, Evan turned 4 on June 3rd which incidently was also National Cancer Survivor's Day this year. He had a fun party!
He was officially declared N.E.D. (no evidence of disease) on April 26th. We are thrilled, but realize that this is a very aggressive disease, so we have to keep giving and seeking treatment until a cure is found.
Thank you for your continued support and prayers.
Wendy Lindberg"
