    Power of the cell phone

I usually try not to complain to much, but why is it people go out and buy cell phones and carry the things with them and not answer it when it rings. Last evening I called eight people and only one answered his phone. I'm talking about professional people (captains) that also complain about not getting enough trips. Since I am temporary broke down, I was looking for someone to give my trips to. I even left some messages with no replies!
WHATS THE SINCE IN HAVING A CELL PHONE IF YOUR NOT GOING TO ANSWER IT!
I know sometimes people are busy and can't get to the phone, but theres a little feature on the phone that tells you when someone called. I always call these people back.
Then we have the fill in mates that want work, but they don't answer the phone. Why do they waste their time putting their numbers up if they're not going to answer the phone. The last time I needed one I called twelve on the list and only one phone got answered by a mates girlfriend that cussed me out for calling so early in the morning.
I have my phone for business and I try to answer it anytime it rings. I just don't understand why other people don't.
This is my rant for the week. What do you think?

I feel your pain. If you are out there providing a service the least you can do is return a phone call. I have been frustrated over the last couple years with trying to get things done at the house, to the boat, to getting artwork done. I do not know if everyone is just too busy to respond or if they are just inconsiderate. When you finally do get a call back and the ball is rolling and then dropped by the contractor. You call, and e-mail the contractor and they do not get back to you and now I have to start all over again. Several years ago I went through about 12 contractors to get a stone patio done on the back of the house. Of the 12 or so only 3 returned a phone call and met with me. This was not a small patio either, it covers the entire back of the house and had a lot of extras. I can understand if it was a small job and they did not want to bother with it but let me know that. I will have a lot more respect for you if you are up front saying that you are extremely busy and could not do the work for several months than just blowing me off. Customer service now a days flat out sucks and I cannot believe that some of these companies are still in business. To go through a list of 12 mates to fill a boat is not good. These obviously are not top notch mates that are looking to make a name for themselves, they are just there for a boat ride.

Feel your pain Ron....It's even worse when you want to leave someone a message and their mailbox is full Thanks for the phone call yesterday and if my boat wasn't running a lil hot, you could have taken mine out for your trips....

The nice thing about my cell phone, is everytime I call Ron, he hooks up on a fish.....I don't even charge him for the phone call Damn, I'm a nice guy!!!

Hope you get your problem fixed and get back out there. Looks like some pretty days ahead of us!!!!

I'm with both of you. It seems the only time people use their cell is when they are driving! Usually a tenth of a mile after leaving the house or dock when they could have done the calling before getting underway! I always geta call when, I'm hooked-up(lucky!) or like this morning standing on the top of a ladder. And people drive 90 miles an hour and just yak away! Good luck on the repair Capt.

I can understand on a business line, not answering or returning calls is no way to run a business.

BUT, for my phone, I'll answer it if/when I want. Me buying a phone and carrying it does not obligate me to talk to anyone. I generally answer it, but if I don't feel like talking to anyone I don't feel bad about not answering. I will, however, listen to the message in case its important and I want to call back.

but again, if it is a business contact you should expect an answer or return call.
