Major Duties:
This position is located with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, located at Oklahoma State University in the host Department of Natural Resource, Ecology and Management, in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
The Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit Program was established to facilitate cooperation between the Department of the Interior, universities, state natural resource agencies, and private organizations, and to conduct programs of research and education related to fish and wildlife resource management. The operations of this Unit are governed by a formal Cooperative Agreement signed by USGS, Oklahoma State University, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (the state's natural resource management agency), and the Wildlife Management Institute.
This position serves as an Assistant Unit Leader responsible for the development of an independent research program; and serves as a consultant regarding natural resources research and management to the Unit Leader, Cooperators, regional and area offices of USGS, and to other Federal, state, and private conservation agencies.
Research is expected to focus on fisheries and/or aquatic biology and/or management in varied landscapes of the central plains of the U.S. Prioritized areas of technical expertise sought include one or more of the following: conservation and biodiversity of aquatic invertebrates, invasive/nuisance species, and/or biotic responses to human impacts involving water use and quality, preferably with relevance to climate change or restoration ecology.
This position serves as a faculty member at Oklahoma State University with responsibility for the administration of research grants and contract funds under his/her personal direction; teaching graduate-level courses in aquatic ecology, restoration ecology, quantitative ecology, conservation biology or other closely related topics; and serving as mentor/advisor to graduate students and technical staff.
