Boy oh boy, we never saw this coming.
My beautiful 17 y/o niece, an honor student at a prestigious school here in Philadelphia; athletically gifted; volunteer companion at a nursing home; student tutor; popular with team mates, classmates, teachers, family & friends and a just a wonderful young lady, had a total meltdown on Tuesday.
There were some signs over the last 6-8 months but we never knew the seriousness of her problems til yesterday; she hid her problems too well! The diagnosis: clinical depression and bulimia. My family and I are shocked and devastated. I have no children.....my niece and nephews mean everything in the world to me.
Today starts her journey back to physical and emotional well being; she is a patient at one of the best eating disorder clinics in the U.S.
To all you mothers and fathers out there.......keep a close watch on your children for even the slightest change in behavior, grades, etc. It could be nothing......or it could be a sign of underlying strife.
Thank you everyone.
