what wind and tide conditions normally cause the inlet to be nasty?? We may be in the 22 sea hunt or 25 contender or 28 triton depending on who can make arrangements to go when the conditions are favorable. All advise and or tips appreciated.

A rule of thumb for OI and Hatteras is.....When you have to ask don't go.It can be nice when you leave and a whole different story when you get back. More than 1 time I have had to run down to Hatteras Inlet and run the sound up. Like Glenn said Be careful!!
Thanks,
I have fished hatteras a few times and it was always ok, did get a little sloppy on time with a se 20 blowing. Really trying to found out what conditions and wind directions to look for so that we don't make the trip up to find it to rough to fish.
Glenn answered your question NE to East outgoing tide i've seen it get nasty with no wind and a large swell out of the east against an outgoing tide. Just use good judgement it's not usually bad paying attention to the charter boats won't hurt either.
E or NE out of OI and SE out of Hatteras are the worst times. If they are calling for seas over 4 only go on the Triton unless you enjoy bouncing around on the deck. Like everyone says if they are calling for the wind to 5-10 add 10 to it would be more realistic.
