I've fished both downriggers and the planer rods. After fishing the planer rod I prefer that setup. If you're using the big planer like Marty does the Tiagra 80 is the way to go in my opinion. I'm going to experiment with different setups next year with smaller planers. As soon as I put a swivel rod holder in my boat I'm ordering a DFA rod.

i have no super use for heavy, heavy planner rods, becasue i will not be going very far offshore in my boat.

but i have found two key largo short strokers on ebay, brand new, for 72 bucks each! sweet deal.

long fore handle, short but, NICE action, think i want them.

prlly put some tld 20 II's on them. or plain 20's.

    cant wait til spring!

    i get my boaty boat!

tryin to convince the dad for the bigger one ;-)

i really, realllly, want this 23 mako i saw , with an inboard in it.

super sweet condition, and the guy didnt want that much for it.

    as little as possible
why screw around? if you are using super heavy duty bent butts with 80's on small boat you are just commercial fishing, no sport, so cut out the middle man and do it right
