    Planer?

How far should I be running my bait behind the planer for BFT?

Usually we try and run a bait around 150 to 200 ft. behind the planer for the BFT. I you run if longer than that your bait has a tendency to ride up some the farther back it is.

Getting a little slow minded in my old age.
200 feet back? If your trolling artifical, doesn't this have a bad effect on its action? Usually 100 ft is the max that I try to troll artifical. 30-50 feet behind the planer has proven to be my best strike zone.
Live bait is different, usually a slower speed, long florocarbon leader and I will troll 100-150, depending if I using a planer off the back or using a side planer.
But then again, all of this depends on how spookly the fish are, the type of boat your fishing from, your planer, how deep your trolling, time of day, bait/lure.
I guess the best response would have been.....It depends.....
