    Not sure

I found my crimson handle lazer to have diminished my accuracy without it. I only use it now after practicing 90% without and only on my .38 snub concealed carry..

On my larger frame with a rail (Beretta vertec 96 .40) the rail with any accessory makes it impossible to find a holster, so it has become my night lite...if you know what I mean.

    Kahi,
This thread is timely as I have been considering putting a Crimson on my J-Frame snubbie. I've never used a laser before, but it would seem to be an asset for me on my model 60 as I am a terrible shot with handguns generally, and even worse with the little ones. What's your conclusion on your snub nose?
BTW, it would seem that the Crimson will not interfere with holster fit on a S&W J-frame, but I don't know for sure.

    Glenn:

I have a Smith and Wesson Airweight in .38 . It, in my opinion, is the perfect concealed carry for Miami...as it is very light (allum and titanium frame), and we wear lite clothes due to the heat down here. As you can see, it is hammerless, so doesn't get caught on anything on the quick draw. I laser (crimson) is built into the handle and after market..they now make a model that comes special with the gun. I added it as a helpful training tool, while acclimating my wife to shooting and decided to keep it on. The laser illuminates well, and I found that to be helpful when investing strange noises in the dark...might not be tactical, but the glowing red light is a deterant in my opinion.

Again, this is just my opinion...but a J-frame is meant for close shots (within 6 feet) and training for anything more is just a waste of time and bullets..It's a personal protection gun and using the laser is great for the 'snubby'...I think most people are a terrible shot with J-frames, as they have tremendous kick, little to absorb and follow up shots are difficult...the laser allows for quick re-sighting the line of sight/fire..My research shows that the majority of confrontations involved in personal protection, and from the law abider's side and including a concealed small frame ie. J-frame have to to do with less than 3 shots fired, and within 5 feet...that what I practice for at the range specifically for the gun...I train for the gun and scenario...ie..long range on a hunting rifle...20 yards on the scatter gun etc..

As far as holsters go...I found the Uncle Bucks holster that fits well, protects the trigger form being exposed and is easy to conceal inside my pants, wether wearing a suit, jeans or shorts...it stays in place when removing the gun, due to special fabric that causes it to have friction when pulling...

Just an observation, not intended to offend, but in a self-defense situation a laser gives your opponent something to aim at too. It gives away your position, and as Kahi also observed it affects your instinctive shooting abilities. IMHO it's a gimmick. Maybe okay for a sniper, but for defensive use I would suggest a set of Trijicon sights instead. That and practice. Sighting needs to be instinctive. Chasing a dot around trying to get it in the right place is too precise a pursuit when your life is on the line.

If your talking about hunting, isn't use of any kind of light usually illegal?

    Thoughts?

I bought a Kimber Ultra Compact 45 with the Crimson sights included, I kind of like it , the bullet does go where the red dot is pointing. I do plan to add a aet of Nopvak Night sights this spring . But I like it.

GLENN & GUNS???? What has the world come to??? I though Glenn would have these posted around his house for protection: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7pGt_O1uM8

    Couldn't resist, Buddy.

I have the same J frame Kahi has and during the summer, flop flops and surfing shorts, this is always camped out in my pocket and not once has anyone known. Super light, doesn't weigh your pants / shorts down. I'm no fan of laser sights, but if they work for you, great.

My concerns as well--- human nature is that one would be more concerned with "fitting the dot to the spot" than proper instinctive aiming which waste wahy too much time--- even when you try not to be consumed by the dot.
I'll probablly still get one and if I don't like it, it can join the rest of the toys I thought were good ideas but nevr use in the closet.

I thought the same thing (except the min. distance I train from is 7 yds), until I saw this Ol' Timer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgl8VuX0LuY Not the smoothest reloading cat around, but with his shooting, I doubt he would ever need to reload. Take a peek, you'll be impressed, not only with him, but also the little J frame.

'zactly. At the range is one thing, a dark hallway is another. One needs to boil the elements down to the simplest, most automatic reflexes. Because under stress, that's how humans operate.
