Here's my thoughts on dots...realisticly, the handguns are for protecting my person when doing HUD work in bad neighborhoods,a laser isn't practical,as if i were to be robbed it would come as a carjacking attack, not much response time and the 1911 i tuck next to my seat isn't gonna help me if i don't see it coming..but for home protection, the first alert is my dog barking,at that point I'm awake, my first visit is my girls rooms, side by side ,end of house, keep the lights off,as i know the layout better than an intruder, heres the Hollywood inspired fear factor, an intruder seeing a laser dot moving around will recall all he knows about laser dots, courtesy of Hollywood, he'll **** his pants, because every association with lasers has some poor SOB getting ventilated by guys in spandex suits wearing full tactical gear, as for sighting, hell, in a dimly lit space give me something to target, and i;m on it, as for my wife..imagine being a robber and seeing some hot blond in stance aiming a .40 at you..then looking down and seeing the dot. I practice with both laser and sight,i dint find it decreases my ability.

Well, it's all personal preference, and the best thing is probably what you are most comfortable and familiar with. But if you're going for the fear factor why wait for them to see a tiny little red spot? Use something that sends the "Oh $#!t"s throughout the entire house.

There's absolutely nothing else in the world that puts the fear of God in someone like the sound of racking a 12 ga. pump-action shotgun.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

lol, yea, i hope i never have to find out which one is more effective..but with the pistol i have less chance of blowing holes in the wrong wall..2 kids..2 dogs..dam cat..ect..
i guess the real..bottom line reason for lasers.....there cool? they helped my wife when she was learning to put the bullet on the mark, after she got used to recoil and placement using laser..she then got good w/sights, but the laser did help.

    Thumbs up

Well, I went out and purcased a Crimson Trace for my Model 60. All I can say is that these are a wonderful tool for self/home defense for me. Target aquisition is instantaneous, no second guessing if I'm on target, and it is accurate as he11. For me it was a good decision.
I would recomend the waterproof model for us fishermen (altough I didn't get it), as the regular model could be toast in a wet environment.
