    Perspective

Remember when we were poor, wasn't to bad was it??

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the
country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be
    considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the
    trip?"

    "It was great, Dad."

"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.

    "Oh yeah," said the son.

"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

    The son answered:

"I saw that we have one dog and they had four.

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a
    creek that has no end.

We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.

Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go
    beyond our sight.

We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.

We buy our food, but they grow theirs.

We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to
    protect them."

    The boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."

Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if
we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what
    we don't have.

Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!

My family were farmers so it really makes me thankful for everything they gave me.

I have a cousin who is a cattle farmer in North Dakota. Been doing it all his life. It's in his blood.
I have often wished I could just give everything up and live the simple life and put in a good, honest day's work. There is nothing more I would like to do than farm. Manual labor is one of my favorite things to do in my spare time. I'll ask my mom, do we have any wood that needs to be chopped or stacked? Do we have any stumps that need to be pulled? I know how weird that sounds, but I love it.

Oh, my cousin told me I could go up there for a week and help him farm and he'd help me kill a big buck, in exchange for a week of fishing the salt out here. Sounds like a win-win to me

You can learn a life lesson up there. I think you would thank him in the long run for making you work so hard.

Thanks for the perspective CB. I found much of that moving south from up north. I would have it no other way now.

You have no idea how much I would love being up there. I don't care if I'm dead at the end of the week, that would be one of the best experiences of my life.

We were so poor we licked a postage stamp for dinner.
Made soup out of it the second night.
