    When good threads turn bad

Im new to this site and have learned a hell of alot in a shot time.
Rigging, Teasers, Videos, Lures, Jokes and so much more, its all here for the average joe to take in and become better, smarter fishermen!
I'm from Australia and there is info and tips on this great site like how to make a Toad or rigg a squid for trolling, that I wouldn't of otherwise had access to and people around here have never seen before.
So like the man said keep personal attacks, negative comments ect to yourself and we can all continue to enjoy this awsome site

i appreciate the "respect" (because i am italiano) and i send it mutually right back at ya. after reading ur post i think we are probably more in agreement than not.

gringo's post (as usual for the el wiso gringo) is right on the mark. i personally believe that his approach ("walk around the dog crap" and "teach the little kids") is the way to go in this situation and especially since we know it is inevitable that we will encounter those obstacles.

i also think that when a little kid craps on the rug, or steps out of line by posting up some nasty comment(s) or similar, that it is not out of line to call them out on it in a professional and positive manner, in effect to say, ok that is not really acceptable in a society such as ours so let's recognize that you are a young'in and may have some value to add and give you another chance. as an example, you see it i believe where new people post up on SFC, most of them are positive, they observe fir w while and then honestly trying to contribute to the SFC community without busting anyone, but then every once in a while along comes someone that craps all over a thread - in their first post!!

in my opinion, it is context appropriate to say to them, "well thank you for sharing but that was not a very positive thing to say, "could you find another way to express urself", and then you go on and say what you think about the subject matter at hand on that particular post, whatever it is.

that is all i am saying. not that i am picking a fight or contributing to the negativity, but i will call it that we are all "self-policing" ourselves. if you act like an idiot here the way we have defined it in these previous posts and in the original post by Sterling. what we are all saying i hope is that no one can hijack this site for their own personal crap! if they try, we will push them back in line. it is the perfect balance in my opinion. it works well in many communities, real and virtual!

ok, well that is how i see it, and i think that we see it pretty much the same. what you think?

if the situation truly warrants, and you need to make light of something that you feel everyone should be privy to, then let us know. but consider what that situation is. don't just air your dirty laundry for a little feel good session.

if someone on this site has a problem with me for the things i have said or done, then i offer my heart felt apology. if its something major, then i hope you will come take it up in person with me. messages are easily misconstrued when discussed through a keyboard. we may not see eye to eye, but we will both come out of the experience a little smarter and a little wiser.
Does Satan give you supernatural powers? I call on the power, that's what makes me so much better than everyone else. That's so cool.

for marlinasshole to read this thread and to make this very point for us. he/she/it is an example of exactly what i am referring to. in marlinasshole's VERY FIRST POST here at SFC (responding to a sincere member who was asking for assistance about gel coat cracks on his new boat) on january 25, 2008, this is what it said:

Newest Member Intro --I'm the newest member from the other site. I see lots of familiar names. I didn't post much over there, because I fish every day. The only reason I'm not fishing right now is because its dark. I pretty much know everything about boats and motors, because I spend so much time on the water. I'm out there everyday. If you have any questions about boats or building boats, don't be afraid to ask. But you better be ready, because I pretty much think ALL boats are POS. I am not afraid to tell you all about your cracked up POS. My girlfriend Justene and I get to travel the world chasing Big Blue Marlin everyday. My biggest was well over 1,000lbs. I have even caught fish using bucktails. I HATE Detroits they can turn a POS into an even bigger POS, even though charter fleets have relied on them for decades. I know you are going to tell me they have always brought your POS home everyday. You can save that for someone who will believe you, because I'm out there everyday. Thanks for welcoming me! One day you will be as cool as I am! See you on the water, I am always out there

in responsive posts, SFC members responded to him in a simple positive way, asking him why he could not be more helpful to this thread and add SOME value to the SFC member needing help with his gelcoat cracks. THAT IS WHAT I AM SAYING! THAT IS A VERY APPROPRIATE "CALL OUT" FOR SOMEONE WHO POSTS THIS CRAP. Don't you agree?

Now comes this self-admitted Asshole and posts his crap AGAIN. so it is appropriate to call him out again, because he obviously feels GUILTY of dropping his turds on this site and it is also obvious that he has no intention of curing his ways and offering anything helpful. so Sterling, fear not these dopes, just call them out and they do GO AWAY. notice that since then Assholer has rarely posted at SFC. and i predict that he will either post up something very different next time (which would mean he is learning his lesson) or he will go away into the Turd sunset.

thanks marlinAssholer for making my point with a real life example!
