From doing lure buisiness with several local tackle shops, I might have a little insight for you. Most don't carry a big stock in reels. There isn't much profit margin in them, maybe 10 percent. They buy a lot of locally made tackle, bucktails, mojos jigging spoons and shad bodies. These they can make 40%-60% profit on. Several do custom rod building in house, and show a good profit margin on it.

That being said, stock will make you or it will break you. If you continually don't have what the anglers are looking for on the shelves, they aren't going to come back. If you have a ton of stock sitting around, well that's not good for you either.

As far as brands, Penn and Shimano are going to be the kings of your reel lines, but you'll need some cheap entry level stuff too. I love everything I have by Daiwa, but they don't seem to sale all that well.

Rods-Penn, Shimano, St Croix all are good. For a more mid priced rod Daiwa Heartland, Cortland. The new Sea Strikers carry an awesome warranty and are very affordable.

Hooks-Mustad, Gamagatsu, Owner and VMC. Bulk packs if they are available.

    Terminal Gear- Sampo, Spro.

Line- Momoi, Berkley, Ande, Seagar and Power Pro.

Clothing-Anything Columbia. Grundens and Frogs rain gear. Xtra Tuff boots. North Face and Bluewater gloves.

Knives-Hard to beat a Dexter Russel
