To all that read this and sell something, what ever it may be...this little thread will give you an idea of how this works and how YOU can reach more people and sell more of your products, in return, make more money... You say that you don't sell anything...how about your boss that you work for, does he??? Food for thought...

Am I going to advertize on a site that has and probably will continue to bash my product? Isn't that kind of counter productive? I could name dozens of posts where there has been unmerciful product bashing. I won't name specific products as I don't want to provide another google link. Just one thought of many regarding advertizing on a forum site.

Not knocking the site at all Johnny. I don't no jack shit about the internet and I know very little about business, but I never type shit that might be perceived as bighting the hand the feeds.

That may be true, but people find sportfishermen.com when looking to buy fishing and marine products or to learn more about them. Consumers. Some check out the forum and go away, while tons stick around lurking or registering and posting... and ready to invest some money on what they love, fishing.

Also sportfishermen.com is not all about forums. Go to google and search for fishing videos or new jersey fishing tournaments.

Countless times I was searching for a product or service, saw a competitors ad on the page and ended up buying that product instead (after some research, of course)

You showed what could be seen as a bad side of advertising in forums. I posted about the good sides

If you think about computer magazines or computer websites, they show reviews of products. I see a lot products where the reviews are not very good to the product, and at the same time that same company keeps advertising on that magazine or website month after month. There's a reason.

Also the same way people post bad things about a product, others absolutely love the same products and post great things about them.

I first read about Berkley Gulp! here on sportfishermen.com
Then I also saw that some people didn't seem to have "luck" with it, but I bought several bags to try. I don't seem to have time for fishing, but the largest fish I've caught to date was on a Berkley Gulp!

I will say this though Fritz your point is no doubt Valid but the companies who have succeeded online have learned one very very valid part about internet Marketing.

Some one takes a stab at your company, Call it bashing.

Smart companies realize the worse thing you can do is one, not respond, 2 make a dumb ass response.

Trick is simple the real consumers are smart, You need to know this, I personally believe we have tons of very smart consumers on this site.

When a company responds to a problem the best thing a company can do is give a level headed response and take care of the issue the best they can.
THE REAL CONSUMERS SEE PAST THE BULLSHIT, they also respect companies for standing up for the product.

Now a product gets bashed and no sign of any one,, witch is 95 % of the marine industry, the threads travel on for ever.

Yes I used this site to get Mercury's attention, WHY? after 18 months of attempting to do it the right way I wanted to be heard. Now they did not respond in public but they realized real fast that taking care of the issue that I had attempted to do for along time was the right thing to do.

Some times consumers need to be heard. I still love verado's sucks I had to do that but I must say in that case they did do the proper things.

Now if you sell junk ? Get off the net, it is not the place to peddle your wears, you will be out of biz fast. You have shitty customer support ? Yep your gonna have trouble. The net is alive, we attempt to keep at least 20 hour watch on our site.
We mess up no doubt and we work hard to clean up the bs, but we have also worked hard to make the people who own the products learn that interacting with the consumers is not as scary as they think it is, For those who have crossed the line they are reaping the rewards.

My email box fills up when a company gets mentioned..
Ummm so they are reading.

Then they beg me to take time out of my day to fix it for them.

Now case and point WHY SHOULD I BOTHER FIXING IT FOR THEM ANY MORE? I fix it they say cool , or never send a christmas card and 3 months later they hit me up to do something for them again.

Humm my new attitude is you take care of me Ill take care of you, other then that learn to fend for yourself...

Its your product, your consumers are speaking .. where are you ???

on this site as well as in the field....it can be a little scary dealing with the "general public" - but ya got to get over it - Our buisness is the general public........to be honest with you i would rather start a thread give advice answer questons etc - and get feed back to what clients actually need and whats important to them then stick my logo in a commercial or a magazine - because a picture isnt a voice, it cant tell clients or potential clients a story - or give them advice......HOW MANY PEOPLE HEAR - THEIR NUMBER ONE WAY OF GETTING NEW CLIENTS IS WORD OF MOUTH........HOW MUCH MORE BIG A MOUTH COULD YOU WANT THEN THE WORLD WIDE WEB....I love this tho - companies have depended on their name to get them through - they havent changed with the times...they lose their principals - give a shotty product and donot give a hoot about their customer - If i had that problem i wouldnt run from open criticism i would shange my standards and product!!!.....HOW AWESOME WOULD IT BE TO HAVE PRODUCT FEED BACK STREAMING AT ALL TIMES.....TEST NEW PRODUCTS SHOWCASE IDEAS -..............No you will never make everybody happy - but lets get back to basics....I got to be honest with you to join a forum and put your self out there and your product is the boldest/ballsiest type of advertising you do and i raise a glass to all who do it - Because you are ultimatly showing everyone who you are and what your about....you open yourself up for critism/complaints...but you also open up the field for a satisfied customer to tell how their experience was......

I can understand fritz's point - but i got to say as some one who deals with the general public on and off SF.com we havent had any problems......shocking huh??? beacuse INSURANCE SUCKS!!!!!!!
