    Here is the point

In order to effect a sale, you must first understand the potential client's or customer's objections. If you don't understand the objection, you can't overcome it and make the sale. All I was doing was putting out there what I percieve may be a possible objection. I did this with the full intention of creating a constructive dialogue from whcih everybody might learn, myself included. You can rant all you want about people not understanding you and your product, but ultimately it is your responsibiilty to understand the client before you can help them understand you.

    Your perception...

of yourself or your own product can actually affect your ability to effectively market said product in an open forum. Those offering honest service, reasonably priced goods, quality products, or some combination of the above will benefit from the traffic. If your product, or service, is not all it is percieved to be by the end users who ultimately spend the dollars(who gives a shit about the rest) then you will probably want a select audience in a more controlled environment. Moral of the story, if a crowd of consumers is likely to raise more objections than testimonials to the product/service you are selling, your business could be on the Fritz.

Lee did not attack anyone, or make anything personal, despite what was percieved by some. That being said...what's more important to closing a sale? Perception or reality?

    Interesting thread.

Forget I ever said anything. You're right, the entire marine industry and all of their high paid marketing & sales experts are wrong. They just don't get it.

    Internet dialogue is tough...
And my post was meant to further this discussion...not end it...
Part of what I said is agreeing with you...

Should the internet be a lead generating tool for your business or a closing tool? Can it be both? I guess that depends on what you are selling. Some people are talented enough salespeople to sell ice to an Eskimo...but...even these most talented salespeople aren't gonna with a guy giving it away at the door of thier shop. Or are they? Are their customers Loyal? Friends?

Interesting, all of it. I recently have spoken to a few friends who own/work for ad agencies and we got on the topic of public forums. Many companies, including the marine industry have a no advertising on public forum policies. I asked why, and couldnt get a straight answer.

Maybe John's rants are a public apology to us all for what is to come on this site....I ain't gonna click on Tuna Report and end up at a ****** add too many times before I get over that. John knows it.
If I were John, I would already be fishing though...I fully see where he's coming from and appreciate that. I would have sold out and let someone else play policeman. Gonna suck when that happens...
Wait till you click on Penn and end up somewhere that sells lead for your Penncil.

AM I totally off my rocker here John? Nevermind...don't answer that....Do I understand where you're coming from a little?
