Guess I just purchased my last Penn reel. Have never had good experiences with shakesphere stuff and I have a feeling that they are going to skimp on anything that they put out under the penn name, if they even keep it. Looks like I might be finding out why so many of you guys rave about shimano.

I view this as a positive for Penn with likely improvements in quality and service with the new ownership. Most of the production changes have occured over the past several years with the recent sellers of Penn. This included going to an off shore spinning reel and rod production.

The new owners will most likely modernize Penn's production and customer service systems and inject some much needed capital into the company. It should be very interesting to see what actually happens.

Remember, the high end reels are still made here in the USA.

I've been using Penn 309s for trolling stripers and my heavy bait tackle uses such as black drum. My go to light tackle spinning reels are all Shimano and I will be upgrading to Shimanos for the rest of my fishing needs as well. That said, it will be interesting to see the Penn name carry on (if indeed it does) and watch what becomes of a classic company.

I agree Timber, and hope that this move can bring Penn up to speed with some of the other options that are out there. I always try to buy american when all things are equal, unfortunately they just haven't been equal in recent history. I hope that they can bring Penn up to speed so I can help to support the american product (if it's even american anymore ).
