    Part of it is here

Its time to move into the digital age. Having held out as long as I could with the Canon 35mm and making do with a small digital camera I finally decided to get me something different. My last fishing trip to Ecuador did a number on my film and the small digital just wasn't fast enough to capture a sail fish jumping so I decided on a new camera as my gift to myself. I had been holding out to get enough points for the D90 but I wasn't sure if I would get them in time for my winter vacation fishing trip in January so I settled on the D5000 and was able to get a zoom(not in yet) instead.

Maybe now I can take some quality photos like Lee and Pino. That is if I can catch a fish again soon. And Frank(Seapower) I am even more confoosed than you since this thing came with a 235 page instruction/owners manuel. I guess now is the time to go shopping for a pelican case(on SFC) to keep the thing dry.

For you camera guru's what size memory card should I get? I won't be able to download photos while I'm in Costa Rica so I need to make sure I have one with enough memory for a bunch of pics and should I get a spare since this thing shoots some kind of video as well.

    Jay,
My cameras use 4 GB SD Flash cards - you can find them for about $10.00 - I keep a bunch of spares. when a card gets full, just pop in a new one.

I also set my camera to the highest possible resolution - You can always reduce the size of the image, but you can never go back and get better...

I heard something about SD Cards that are super or HD ? I was told they would let the camera rapid fire better ?

SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) - They hold a minimum of 4 GB, and are faster than Plain SD cards - 6MB/Sec vs 3MB/Sec

It means you can put twice as many photos on the card at the same time...

If your camera can use SDHC, then it will also use the older SD cards - A bit cheaper for day to day stuff.

Great little Camera. I also shoot a 4 gig card. I the raw format I get 750 pictures, in the fine or super fins fromat I get 1,200 pictures. I can and will burn a 4 gig card in 1 shooting. One of the keys to getting the shots you are looking for is shooting a lot. I guess I shot 30 to 35,000 pictures last year alone and that is not much for some guys. I know some guys that will shoot 6,000 shots on an outing in raw, thats a lot of gigs...

Also get this for your self for Christmas...lots of great info in it...
