    Outriggers? - a few questions

First, I'm wondering if anyone knows the base size for some various outrigger bases that mount on the T-Top. I have an area of 5x7 to work with for the backing plates.

What brand do you all prefer? Rupp? Lee? Taco? Price takes a back seat to quality.

Want top mounted, probably 15' poles, 1/2 in base, used for pulling big spreader bars, need stiff poles that can handle the weight.

Can 15' poles be double rigged?

I'll try to post up specifics I am looking at later, as I am still researching all the outriggers.

    BTW, 21' CC

    Thanks guys

I have the 15 ft outriggers on my pursuit t-top. Only downfall to them is that they make alot of noise when in choppy weather or even hitting another boats wake in the bay. They are heavy and don`t have much support. I never have them on the boat unless i know i would use them for trolling. Just a fyi. Might want to think about the retractable riggers. Don`t know much about them but seen them on boats

Thanks for the info Rhoos22 I trailer 100 mile each way, so telescopic is pretty much the only way to go

I'm thinking Rupp Top Guns or Taco Grand Slam 250, just to give you guys an idea of what I'm looking for.

    Any similar suggestions?

Wondering if there will be any trouble with the under top crank handle thingy with the two poles right next to it. Check the pic at bottom.

I am using the Lee 277 and 16.5 x-strong poles. 5x7 will work i believe. the problem with the 277's is you have to climb to operate although a simple, well made mechanism. The Lee sidewinder bases is what I would go with if I did it again along with the XT poles. I have mine double rigged, havnt pulled spreader bars but have pulled some 2 lb mojos off the long and shorts and they handled them with ease.

    3916xs and 3716XS poles

    hope this helps- craig

I really like the design on those 277's. Seems simple. Simple is better! Don't have to worry about moving parts (at least not more than a few). Those are the front runners right now. But the race is still young

    Thanks for the info

I was wondering, are those the telescoping poles? If so, is it hard to shorten them while they are still in the 277 mounts? Telescoping poles are supposed to be retracted when running, no? I would think it would be somewhat difficult to retract those poles while they are in the holder.

    Thanks

Hey Fintab- they dont retract- they would lose all the rigidity i think if they did. They basically bolt together with the eye rings , nylon inserts and they are a one time shot. However , on mine I grease the base where they slide into the mounts and the weight of them alone keeps them secure and if I need them out for any reason , (like to trailor your boat) I just lift them out and put them back in- that easy. If you dont grease them the nylon bushing will be plenty to keep them secure without adding a screw or whatever into the base.

    here is mine-

    OK Craig, thanks a lot

One last question. Could I unbolt the riggers to trailer if I wanted?

    Thanks
