    Out of Gas

Im glad i made the right decision. So im fishing in the ches. bay for rock and a boat comes flying at me and all i can think is , another damn boat right on top of me. Then a shout, hey im out of gas. So i think to myself about helping, and the guy is 15-20 miles from his port. so i told him im fishing and there is no way i can tow him 15 miles. So after 10 minutes i pull the lines and decide to help the guy out. Thankfully i did. The guy was about to jump overbaord a swim 5 miles to shore. and now he tells me he has a prostetic leg, which makes me feel like a real dipshit if this guy would have tried to swim in and dround. I just wanted to bring this up because after thinking about not taking him in, i thought that if that was me i would want the same. I understand that it is not the easiest thing to do a good deed, but as fisherman out on the water i think we all can lend a helping hand out there. i hope this never happens to anyone, bu tif it does maybe you wont think twice and just do the right thing.

not to sound like a hard-ass but why didn't the guy just call Sea-Tow they'll bring out fuel, (for a price) or could have towed the guy back to port, also for a price.

not knocking you, you did a good thing but I wonder how someone can go out on the water and run outa' fuel

You did a good thing there Pwake, and guess what your reward is? A SFC shirt! That was your 100th post. You see, if you hadn't done that you wouldn't have won a shirt today!

Seriously though, we've helped many people out with dead batteries, etc, and even though it's a pain at the moment it's the right thing to do, and next time you have to pray to god for something you'll have a little bit of ammo.

    Running out Fuel

Not to sound like a harder ass, but running out a fuel is avoidable. Plus, sea tow is always at the ready.

I thought the same thing about the gas. And to be that far away from the docks is pretty stupid. But the guy only had one leg so i kept my mouth shut and towed him in. It was minutes before being dark and he had no lights so i think the best thing to do was get him off the water before someone could have gotten hurt. Wow. Finally a t-shirt. Looks like im having a party at the house this weekend.

I'm one who will normally go way out of my way to help someone in need but it's tough to feel sorry for a guy that's not looking out for himself.
I still know people who don't have SeaTow and I just don't understand...

So let me see if I have this right....

First he can't read a gas gauge, then he wants to jump in and swim 5 miles with one leg?!? Sounds to me like he's got a prosthetic brain.

You did the right thing pwake. I would have done the same thing myself. But I have to wonder if saving someone like that isn't just another execrise in whizzing in the gene pool.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

Maybe the guy just got the boat and didn't know the range he had with the amount of gas he had. I know when I put newer motors on my boat and went offshore for the first time I came through the inlet on E. When I left offshore I had 36 miles to go and a 1/2 a tank of gas but at the inlet I was on E. Later on when I filled the tank back up I had 14 gallons left. Needless to say I learned some things about my fuel guage and my range. Glad you helped him out it will come back to you one day.
