    Optimal SST by species

Just a quick question for everyone:

What are the optimal water temps for various species? YFT, BFT, Marlin, Sword, Mako?

If we're looking at the SST's, What side of the temp break should we work first? or does that matter much?

    Thanks, any feedback is appreciated.

    Tight lines

    Food for thought...K.I.S.S.

Down off Wrightsville Beach NC I don't look for an "optimal water temp". What I Look for is a warm body of water in the winter time and a cooler body of water in the summer.

Thanks for the reply. Up here in the NE the water mixes alot and were looking for the eddies to break off and move west. I've seen the cooler side of a sharp break produce up here depending on other factors. We were fishing in 72 degree water last month in the baltimore and once we crossed into 67.5 we immediately had fish on.

These are optimum and not what is tolerable by each species

    Yellowfin Tuna 72-73
    Bluefin Tuna 60-68
    Marlin 75-78
Mako 66-72 68 seams to be the magic number

Ace1st, We also fishes the break this weekend in that area and saw the 83 degree water you are talking about. I saw some 80 -81 degree water and went looking for it. In the morning we had some slinger Dolphin and hooked about a 400 pound Blue that went through 80 pound and had 2 shots @ a White. Later around noon I found the water I was looking for and the fish were there and chewing...Wahoo's, Dolphin & Tunas. As I said earlier in this post, summer look for cooler water and in the winter look for warmer water...it should help.
