Been using a touch more oil than usual on one of my engines. Its quite possible that it was from multiple rev ups and cool downs during this last weeks sharking trips. Then again it could be something else... A couple weeks ago I got in most every place I could squeeze, wiped down, preped and painted the big girls. Our engine room is fairly roomy but a few spots require a circus side show contortionist to get into. Being that I was on a mission though I hasd to become effectively rubber with myself. I got to places that havn't likely been seen since the boat was built. While in there I found old oil build up and a touch of fresher drip. Nothing really extrodianry thogh. They are after all Detroits... When I crawled out I could see quite a few splotches of blood in my wake. Looked at the arms and had some typical enginge room cuts and scrapes... Now here is my question... Tattoos are basically ink rammed through the skin with a pin. So I'm wondering if oil rammed through the skin by a bigger "pin" being hose clamps and screws could leave a permanent mark? ![]() Not concerned or worried. Hell, my scars have scars and I havn't had too many modeling job offers recently. Just curious if it could work that way...

Once you bury a permanent color into your skin, I think Your stuck with it. Of course it's possible oil may work it's way back out.

Well Deep,
Being that I take at least one "blood test" a day, I feel like I am worthy to reply here. Been doing what your complaining about forever it seem's. Don't recall any "oil tatoo's", just some good blood trail's from time to time. If you get a scar or two, they build character (I almost forgot, your already a character), beside's they're "manly". Stop your whinin' and get back to work, SISSY.

I'll give you sissy right here...
![]() Hell I can't function if I don't get bit by a shark, leader cut, shot, burnt, bludgeoned, poked by a marlin, caught up in a lure grinder, electrocuted, sliced, diced, and gaffed at least once a week...I used to donate a quart of grade A type A to the bilge of my Albemarle once a week. Same kind of stuff as this week. No sweat... No biggie... Was just curious if anyone has ever gotten oil so far in it left a "tat"... I have one tiny dot from a pencil when I was a kid. Was curious how half inch deep gouges with dirt and oil though always seem to go away or at least scar clean... |

Deep,
What I generally do if I've got a cut that deep, that has some oil, grease, rust (oh I forgot, you're working on a Detroit). All kiddin aside, I use alot of "dawn". I I scub it in with a brush, yeah is sting's abit, but I'd rather deal with that than an infection. I use alot of peroxide too. I've not had any more problem with that kind of cut than I have with any other. After all these year's, my hand's are pretty much just scar tissue anyway. Frank

I use betadine instead of peroxide. I have had some real bad goes with MRSA and peroxide on it will cause it to really bloom and spread. Also learned the hard way if you try to hit MRSA with something like amoxicilin it can damn near kill you. It fends off the cillins producing a toxin that litterally will burn your skin right off. Necrotizing Faciitus sucks...
Not likely to run into MRSA as an infection in an enginge room but its common as fleas on a dogs ass around fishing stuff... |

Deep,
I really don't know the do's and don't when it comes to MRSA. I know when we used to shrimp back in the day, we used to keep a bottle of peroxide that had a bottle of iodine mixed in it. We also used to use alot of "clorox" (the good stuff), not cheap bleach. The guy's would get "shrimp poison" when culling up sometimes. We'd dip our hand's in the clorox and use it to wash our culling gloves.I don't know if it's the same stuff your talking about or not. But it was some nasty stuff, I've seen the guy's finger's swell up tight and then bust. I don't know if "shrimp, fish, crab" poison is the same thing or not. Doc's would give intrevenious anti-biotic's for the real bad cases. Frank

Deepy, the short bus needs a relief skipper this weekend. Seriously, oil tattoos? Not sure you even know what you're talking about anymore. Put some pics up of said tattoos. I'll be happy to name 'em for ya.
