Oh well.... My Jersey quickie was pretty much a bust... Weather window had the boys go out before I even got here. Arrived as they hit the dock and helped them cut up their solid catch of tuna, tiles and mahi... Friday was their day to rest up and I just did some fuke pounding. Saturday the weather forecast made for a no fish plan day. Sunday was to be mako but a fairly steep swell made that a prospect of a very slow go. Though not rough they were right on the head and basically launch pads for the little conteder so that was an abort.
Today was to be "the day" with Hudson in the crosshairs. A boat filled to the top with fuel and loaded with bait and impliments of destruction... Alas it wasn't meant to be... Batteries on, lights on and mashed the button to lower the boat lift... We made about a foot drop toward the water when some bad noises started popin, crackin and groaning...The stern continued to go down but the bow hung.
One of the wheels on the track had blown off, the cable hung and the akward angle started bending the superstructure of the track it self... The stop button was hit before further damage and potential catastrophy took place...
Not something we were gonna be able to fix the white flag was waved... The two hundred pounds of ice and bait went back to the freezer tackle was taken off and instead of being bound for the canyon we were left high and dry drinking coffee.
Some might have been upset by having a stellar glass smooth oportunity to whack the pelagics. We however counted our lucky stars that something really bad didn't appen. A cable snapping back at us or the whole thing busting and dropping us ten feet could have proved disasterous. Instead, nobody hurt, no broken boat and damage to the lift itself at a bare minimum...
So time to point the rolling tackle box back south and try again some other time...![]()
Seems that it didn't take much for it to shift and the boat slide out of its cradle landing with a big splash... No damage to the boat or people but the lift is undergoig some major repairs...
