off to Havana .....

hi guys , off to havana tomorrow to fish the "hemingway international" competition . Any other members going ?

hi there robja . i lived there for 3 years . there is some good fishing , but in my opinion , there were not enough boats to go "exploring" . most of the boats just stick around havana .

on my trips west of havana with my boat , there were spots with alot of fish and no boats . so , was difficult to locate the fish , but once you found them ....... great fishing . with a few boats working together , i think it would be easier to locate , then "work" the fish .

will defenitely take pictures , and post them on my return .

hi guys . back from cuba . we managed to get a 2nd place . it was a all release tournament . we released a blue and a sailfish . fishing was slooow . 17 billfish were released out of 33 strikes .

will be going again next year . it will be the 60th anniversary of this competition . hopefully "things" will have eased and more USA boats can compete . if anyone is interested in fishing this comp next year , PM me , as i have contacts there and would be nice to have more people participating . will download some photo's later .

Where these US boats and crews or Cubans ? What was the format?

sorry for delay ,i was in panama . there were 3 usa boats that competed , but for obvious reasons i wont mention their names . the rest of boats were from the cuban company - " marlin " . there were also private boats from foreigners living there . it was a all release tournament . 650 points for a release , 700 points for a tag and release ( photographic proof was needed ). any bill fish qualified for points . here are some photos , but unfortunately none of the releases , as we had to hand back the cameras .
