NWS - Kiss my A$$
Is it that they are all worthless government employees sitting in a box at Georgia Avenue and Rt 29 in Silver Spring, MD No less than 120 miles from the ocean. So now I知 sitting here waiting for the 4pm forecast (or whenever the worthless Fs fell like posting it!) to see if I知 making cash tomorrow or not. My last 7 charters have been called, and I知 only a part timer. All I ask is that they figure the shit out. If its going to blow than tell me its going to blow, but get it right and stick to the forecast. A VERY PISSED OFF -D |

believe me we are with you, the capt. just sent out $4000.00 in refunds now they went but sat/sun is off then on then off then on and either way we are the bad guys for going or pulling the plug because whatever we do it will be wrong. I have been doing it for a while now and figure from sept on we cancel 50% of the trips. Striper trips it depends on the wind direction & tides I have canceled in 15 but gone with 35knots.
Spot trying to give a weeks worth of shit and go back to a two day forecast with an extended guess with a "winds expected to increase or decreased thru the period. |

Language like this, in bold CAPS, is just not necessary. It reminds me of the rudeness that drove me from other sites. JMHO, of course. And I am not a prude, just considerate of others. Last edited by ocnslr; 10-20-2005 at 06:51 PM. |

Well,
You guys can whine about forecasts or do like I do. Look out the window and make up my own mind. They are so seldom right that it borders on irresponsible to put any value in it. I use their info and sattellite shots to determine where a front is and what speed its comming. I'll look at radar loops to see whats likely to bite me or not bite me. We have been under threat of a hurricane down here for a week. It was supposed to be here tomorrow morning as a major cat 4. Now they're talkin monday night as a 1 or 2. Then you have the issue of those canyon forecasts that cover half the north Atlantic. . How many times I have heard "Oh its gonna be 9-12' and 30 knots" only to read the fine print that that is forecast to be east of 70 W or about 200 miles past where you'll be fishing. People need to know that the lat long of their canyon and then look on a map where the caca is supposed to be. Even at that still show little or no faith in what you read and make up your own mind. When I walk out of my house on a January morn and we have a light puff from the west. I know that it will be screamin north west by late in the day and north tomorrow... That kind of stuff...

I hear ya guys. NOAA does not have a clue. Whatever forcast models they are using are WRONG more than they are right. You'd think they would catch on to this by now and try something new. But that would mean spending money and taking some time and effort to be more consistant.
