As the worlds number 1 swimmer/athlete he knows he is under the microscope at all times. What does this say to the aspiring 12 year old swimmer/athlete? That it's ok to do drugs? You would have thought he learnt his lesson after 04 when he got caught drinking and driving underage!!! This does not look good for his sponsorship future. Probably the dumbest life decision he has made this far.

The US olympic commitee just said it's ok

I think just like any other pro athlete he should be fined and made to clean the community pool with a tooth brush

O...M...G..... This is sad and pathetic....

I suppose every one of you that criticizes Phelps has led a completely mistake-free, completely law-abiding, completely squeaky-clean life. Surely, you are the ideal role model for those young ones around you?

Let's see.. George W. Bush has a DUI - did you vote for him? Obama has admitted to using cocaine - this is the man running your country. Did you vote for him?

Let's just trash all the hard work that Michael Phelps put into winning those gold medals and zero in on and obssess over the fact that he once picked up a bong in front of, no doubt, someone he considered his friend. Nice friend, huh?

As far as that aspiring 12-year old swimmer.... let me tell you something.... I was one of those once - younger actually. I trained with Olympic-class swimmers and divers every summer in the 70s and they were all smokin' it. So if you're going to start crossing names off of the heroes list because of some canibus - man, I gotta bucketful of names for you. And I think you might be surprised...!!!!

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone..."

    Otherwise, shaddup!!!!

LG, well said so i guess i will re-phrase my tooth brush comment to .

Think of a 10-15 year old that may be a swimmer that has the picture of there hero taped to the wall and every time they look at it think that maybe drugs are ok ? it is not a very good example.

    I have a 20 year old , so i am not blind

I hate how the media capitilizes on the fate and future of a pro athlete but it is just the way it is

You are right on people that people that live in glass houses should not throw stones,I stopped throwing

AMEN. I've been around elite athletes as well. Many of them are so focused on their sport, that when the pressure relaxes a bit, they tend to go hog wild on all of the things that they never got a chance to do.

I'm sure my late teens and 20s wouldn't stand up to nearly the scrutiny that his has...

All this and a Steelers fan, Gringo your a lucky man!!! I was gonna say, Wow brains and a Steeler fan, but that would have been redundant. Ill stop picking on the Card fans now they did play a good game.
Now maybe everyone can forgive Mr. Phelps for corrupting their perfect little children.

It's not the first stone that's going to hurt him. It's the boulders the advertisers and sponsors will drop on him-and they're probably some of the most sinful people on the planet!

I know the kid has a learning disability and all. What an f'n moron though. I am sorry.

Smoking weed, whatever. I personally have never, but to me it's not like he's tooting meth or slamming ******.

Besides that, you are an olympic athlete and your hitting the bong in front of a camera. That just shows how much of an idiot he is.

You should know better not to put yourself in that situation. Behind closed doors, okay, i am not going to judge. Making yourself a spectacle when you stand to lose millions....dumb.
