I am not sue you can catch 2 sharks legally in NJ waters. From pharmacy law experience the stricter law is always the one to be enforced. A state can't relax a Federal law. This NJ shark thing always confused me. Besides when you come in the inlet how can you prove you didn't go past 3 miles. I think the feds would hang your ass up

Generally, federal law trumps state law. But I think the Feds have ceded control of waters to states within the three-mile limit. (The Feds "really" didn't give up control inside three miles-they simply control it with money instead of enforcement. If the states don't meet Fed standards inside three miles for various fisheries, they don't get 3 to 1 matching funds.) Therefore different states can have different rules for meeting Fed standards on flounder/fluke, weakfish, stripers, etc., but only if the Feds "bless" those state rules.

I agree on the shark regulations question - we were surprised as well to hear that on the radio especially from committee boats. Anyone fishing with a HMS permit must abide by federal regulations at all times... right?

With regards to the weather, you are 100% right... but how many people have the skill to accurately predict the weather themselves? I have been fishing pretty hard my whole life since I was a little kid... I am 32 now... and I will say I can't do it... not yet anyway. Part of that is I didn't know what to pay attention to in order to make good assessments and predictions of the weather.

My uncle has 15 years on me and he is better and more accurate then any NOAA forecast. I call him the marine Al Roker. Many days he has said "don't go" when the weather looked ok, or "it will be fine" when the forecast sucked. Now I am concentrating on learning the things he looks at and trying to understand and acquire some of that knowledge... but in the meantime I just ask him for his call on the weather and he is always dead on. Now I follow up the question with "why" so i can begin to understand his reasoning and analysis. In order to predict the weather you definitely have to have a knowledge of the fronts that are coming through and how they are going to interact with each other in a particular area. Only through watching those patterns will you be able to learn the expected results of those interactions.

Bottom line... if you can't do it yourself, find someone you know who can predict weather accurately and you won't be fooled by NOAA forecasts all the time. Nothing more frustrating then not fishing and then hearing what a nice day and great bite you missed, or fishing and getting your ass handed to you when you expected a nice day, and this happens to everyone all too often when you rely on those forecasts.

Here is a site with live buoy data in case people don't have this:
    http://www.pdfamily.com/weather/buoy.php

This helps you see what is going on in real time.

But in all seriuosness do you really want to challenge the Northeast fleet on the conditions they venture out in and fish through on an annual basis versus the southern fleet? I would say your boys would have their hats handed to them in a big way.
    Cheers,
jwalker, you may want to check your typos when criticizing typos

greenmachine, 100% right. An old cracker friend of mine once said "There's two types of people who predict the weather, fools and yankees BTW, I love you guys up North. You talk funny too

OUTCAST, The reason we live in the "United States of America" as each state has it's own governing body/rights. Here in FLA it's 9 nm for state water regs. Then fed regs kick in beyond 9 nm. So I (at present bags) could keep 5 aggregate grouper but beyond in fed waters its 3. Unless I'm high on African dust, that's how we play.

Deep, I do not know what tournament you fished or who failed to brief the committee boats properly but I wish the FEDS had been at the dock when boats had showed up with two sharks. Then there would no longer be any doubt about the correct regs.
In regards to northern guys can't read, you must be hanging with the wrong crowd. Those of us here in Cape May are actually south of the Mason Dixon line

Deep, while you are an amusing thing in a most sincerest sense of the word, you are clearly a dumbfuck as proven by your completely ad hominum (look it up) and insensitive attack upon our Northeastern sea-keeping ability. You cracker rednecks can and, in the cases of the best southern caps, HAVE learned alot from Cape Codders. Best regards...

That tourey was the big one... The real Mako Mania...

    Mark
For the record I was born a few miles from you in Boston (The Jamaica Section )... Once I was old enough I renounced my citizenship and fled to the conch repubic and took up an intense study of "Bacardism" (don't bother to look it up, I created that one )... I do rail against "the man" especially when the "dumbfucks" as you refer to as can't even tell what friggin forecast goes with their own friggin water.
I am well aware of the history of the northeastern boater. Unfortunately the names of most of the good ones are inscribed on some memorial shrine I think in Goucester...
I'm not insensitive... I'm sugarry sweet...
