    NORTH CAROLINA – GET YOUR LICENSE!

    NC boys’ and girls’, DON’T FORGET THE NEW LICENSE REQUIRMENT EFFECTIE 1/1/2007!! If you don’t have your saltwater license, take time to go out and get it. It is also available on the web. I’ve got my lifetime license prior to 12/31/05 so I’m under the grandfather provision but if you don’t have the lifetime or bought the brand new annual license; don’t go out on the water without it. The wildlife guys are hanging out at the Wrightsville Beach boat ramp and they are checking for the license and writing up the tickets. I’m glad that they are doing this so that the financial impact of fishing can be measured so that the voice of the fisherman can be heard in Raleigh to get some changes that are needed in the state but I don’t want anyone to get popped with a ticket because the forgot the new law.

    Tex will proably sell them but they are closed until the 14th or 15th. We were boarded at the wrightsville ramp Thursday when we came in. They checked safety equip, licenses, fish, ect. We had everything we needed so we were good to go.

    Do you need them even if you are fishing coastal waters? (ocean)

    NEW N.C. Salwater License

    Seems people think this new license will give money to the state to make some needed changes. I'm curious as to what these changes may be. To those in other states that have a saltwater license. Has there been changes made to enhance fishing, pollution cleanup or anything related to these licenses. My beef in N.C. is that your required to have this license to fish in federal water, Where I already have federal permits. Seems redundant to me.

    If I under stand it right NC regulates to 3 miles, but you need them to "transport" fish caught from out over 3 miles back to the dock. I think I said that right,

    All right, found it. Maybe this will help to clear it up.

    The license is required to recreationally take finfish in the state’s Coastal Fishing Waters, which include sounds, coastal rivers and their tributaries, out to three miles in the ocean. Recreational anglers who catch fish in the Exclusive Economic Zone (3 miles – 200 miles offshore) will be required to have this license to land fish in state waters. Fishing in Joint Waters (areas managed by both the Marine Fisheries and the Wildlife Resources commissions) will require either the CRFL or a WRC inland fishing license.

    Exemptions
    Individuals under16 years of age.
    Individuals who purchase any of the following WRC licenses prior to Jan. 1, 2006:
    · All categories of Lifetime Sportsman licenses;
    · Lifetime Resident Comprehensive Fishing License;
    · Lifetime Combination Hunting and Fishing License for Disabled Resident Sportsman;
    · Disabled Resident Sportsman;
    · Lifetime Fishing License for the Legally Blind; and
    · Adult Care Home Resident Fishing License.
    Blanket Licenses
    For-hire vessels and ocean fishing piers have the option to purchase a blanket license to cover their fishing patrons.
