No Words for this, and no excuse for this administration to not accept, applaud, agree to, cajole, ASK, cower or suck it up and whatever legitimate adjective applies and take whatever help or means necessary to stop this. They were offered help and wouldn't take it, by the Dutch, by Shell, and many countries who had either better cleanup technology or means to help with the capping..etc..all was refused due to the political consequences...thanks demo's your really helping us "CHANGE"..

Watch this slide show it will make you sick to your stomach...but it is "reality". Just keep clicking till you get enraged...enough

It's all on the spin you put on things. After reading the following you may be inclined to agree with the "thanks but no thanks, we'll deal with it ourself" response---

Glenn..so what..look, if it takes our resources and manpower ,say 2 years to clean this mess at a cost of $500K a day thats 365 mill. but using offered resources and the job takes 1 year at 182 mill..we have the job done in half the time and still spent 365 million. the longer this takes the more expensive it is,the more collateral damage is done, the longer people are out of work ect...plus how can you put a monetary value on some of the most important resources this country has?

    Common Sense Should Prevail,

I would be sure to write them all an Official Letter from the President, thanking them for their offer to help. By the way, next time you have a natural disaster, are invaded by a hostile neighbor, need weapon's for your military, etc.... Call Some One else !!! Frank

You may be right Marine-- you may be right.
I'll tell you one thing, if I were the one making the call, it would be a tough decision--- a situation kinda like the mule stuck half way over the fence. But when it was all said and done, my faults of a stiff upper lip and that damn American pride likely would prevail.
Any idea what other Administrations would have done, or what the long standing U.S. policy is in situations like this?

As a patriotic red blooded American, perhaps Buffington and his tupperware Navy will do it for free.

    Glenn,

We all know this will end up being Bush's or someone else's fault. The problem I see, is that we can "suppose" what another administration would have done. But the issue at hand is no other administration has had to deal with an oil spill of this magnitude, containing or cleaning it up. I think any help that is offered should be used, within reason of course. And I stand by what I said earlier, if our "friend's" want to charg , we should remember that when trouble come's knocking on their door. Frank

I think you misunderstand my point: admittadly not clear. See, contrary to the misconceptions of some on this board, every decision made by the Federal Government does not come directly from the White House or at the whim of political appointees. I don't have any idea what the U.S. policy is or has been in circumstances like this, but you can be assured there is a State Deptarment policy. I would vemture a gues ( a guess is all), that this policy has been in place for some time.
It was certainly not my intention to place blame on any administration--- past or present. I think what some here do't understand is that Policy is not always partisan--- particularly when it comes to low level international affairs such as this.
Finally, as I said earlier I don't know what I'd do in this situation--- but then again, I dare say none of us know the full story or implications.

Although I prefer to be called the MOSQUITO FLEET......I would think that THOUSANDS of "TUPPERWARE FLY BY NIGHTERS" could make a signifigant impact in the cleaning up of this spill. Although with the powers that be jockying for whos gonna do it and where they are gona be from......who cares....just get it done. And get it done NOW!! Free enterprise could surely make a signifigant dent in the process.

    Glenn,

No arguement here, I get what you were saying. It's a well known fact (well I assume it is), that the Pentagon has a contingency plan for any Nation that plan's harm to the US or it's interest's. Yes it's hoped that it is never used, but you and I know the plan's are all there just in case.
That's kind of why I pointed out at the beginning of this mess, that "hind sight" is going to be extremely clear. There will be load's of meaningless finger-pointing, all the while work on the ground, at sea and at the well site is in grave need of getting done. We just haven't been here before, in this exact situation. Well yes I do recall this sort of thing happening back in the seventie's(I believe), but not to this magnitude. My saying that Bush will be held at fault was my own way of opening the flood gate's that this could not possibly be this Administration's problem. Guess I just had an un-happy moment. I know extremely out of my character. Frank
