    NMMA sues over E15 approval

    Posted on December 20, 2010

The National Marine Manufacturers Association today filed suit in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit challenging an Oct. 13 decision by the Environmental Protection Agency to partially approve E15 for a subset of on-highway motor vehicles.

The NMMA is joining the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers in a newly formed coalition called the Engine Products Group.

"NMMA regrets having to pursue litigation on this matter, but it is clear that EPA has not fulfilled its statutory obligations to ensure the safe introduction of E15," NMMA president Thom Dammrich said in a statement. "Consequently, we and our industry partners have determined that it is necessary to seek relief in the courts in order to protect our manufacturers and our consumers."

"Throughout this process, NMMA has strongly and consistently urged full scientific testing on marine engines and equipment, as required by law, and the rational evaluation of policy mechanisms to protect consumers from misfueling and product failures associated with incompatible fuels, and regulatory actions to ensure that compatible fuels remain available and affordable," Dammrich said. "EPA has failed in each regard and approved E15 in contravention of its clear statutory requirements."

    NMMA is a scam organization

Mary, the truth is the NMMA is only interested in keeping the profit machine going for the boat manufacturers and it's association, the NMMA, and could care less about the consumer. I discovered this when talking to Tom Marhevko V.P. of engineering for the NMMA. He instructed me to join some civic organization, like the Coast Guard Auxillary, when I pointed out that the NMMA inspector missed the World Cat diesel hatch defect, as "the NMMA is not a consumer protection watchdog when it comes to defective boats and boating products".

If the NMMA is tied to it, informed sportsmen should run. The NMMA is the manufacturers association and that is the only people they protect, because they pay the NMMA yearly dues to be a member. JMO

The NMMA is the manufacturers association ..

Gosh, I guess that's why the MA in NMMA stands for Manufacturers Association! You're dumb enough to buy a defective boat, the manufacturer of your used boat refuses to replace it, the broker says 'as is' means 'as is', and now it's the fault of NMMA? Dumbazz ...

One more moron with half an opinion! Listen, I could care less about World Cat boats but what pisses me off is the scam WC tries to promote by their advertising propaganda is that their boats are "NMMA Certified" and that somehow this is supposed to have some mythical value. NMMA Certification is an absolutely worthless piece of paper, not worthy to even be used to wipe my butt crack.

You obviously have problems with reading retention as I didn't blame the NMMA, except to say that the NMMA inspector, Tim Pitts, must have been drunk or blind when he inspected this model. That puts the exclamation point on the fact that the NMMA is a scam and "Certification" is also a consumer scam, and I think boaters need to beware the hype.

You need to keep in mind that you will be scammed at some point and I want you to be the all knowing man you think you are and keep it to yourself, so others can get scammed too.

As for caring if WC fixed or replaced my boat? Not a big concern at this point. It would have saved WC money if they did the right thing for people who own the diesels but obviously WC lacks product integrity, now this fiasco will cost WC more money than they could have ever imagined! Of course that is coming from a "dumbazz" businessman who doesn't back down......ever!

Yeah, no blame or opinion there! You remind me of Cindy Sheethead! A message no one gives a damn about, but the courage (?) to stand up and be stupid again, and again, and again. Mayhap you could run for Congress like Silly Cindy and save us all from NMMA ...

    NMMA Certification

Curmudgeon, I have an opine based on my conversations, e-mails, and research of the NMMA. They are scamming consumers and when World Cat touts their boats have "NMMA Certification" as if it somehow ensures the boats are built to a higher standard, that is an attempt to scam consumers!

If boat buyers knew that WC was attempting to use this to influence sales, and the consumer was being misled, I think the prospective boat buyer would like to know this fact.

I don't have a problem admitting I got scammed when I bought a WC boat from Town Creek Marina because my pride is not the issue. I feel other fishermen need to know that NMMA is an organization that has no interest in protecting consumers, like they infer. But instead is a marketing/scamming tool used to sell boaters a bill of goods. Hence, when Mary posts that the NMMA is fighting for boaters, I want people to know they are fighting for manufacturers profits and NOT the consumer!
