Well another week slides by... I put the patch away. Kinda sucks because I spent a fortune on a large supply of the buggers. Bottom line... I couldn't function on them safely.
Cold turkey or chantix when this deep and long in the hook up has potential for disaster... Even riding the edges of craving has had its "special" moments.
I've tried stepping down slow before with lousy results but this time tried a bit different and seems to be working. Rather than put out a daily limit of say "half" of what I usually smoke, I have been setting time lines for each one.
Lets say I averaged one every 35 minutes that I was awake before. Well I stretched that to an hour. No more than one in an hour was the rule even if I went longer between. Took a couple days to get used to that and jacked it to an hour and a half... A little squirm getting there but stuck to it. At two hours combined with having used up what my body had stored it got outright special but after a couple days it too got easier.
Today is 2 and a half hours between and already twice went over three with no issues. 8Am, 11:15, 2:30, 5:Pm...
Ok so its not a home run yet but I've cut back by 2/3 to 3/4 of what I was smoking and so far havn't gone into cheat mode or beaten any more inanimate objects...

Going to my boss' memorial service in Shrewbury, NJ, tomorrow. 61 and had everything to look forward to materially. Lousy menthol cigarettes got her. Please stop now and enjoy your grandchildren.
Not the sort of guy you would want to take anywhere...seriously.

I met a fella on a fishing charter in mexico last week. he works for imperial tobacco. I asked him "Are cigarette's really bad for you?" Or is it just propaganda? He assured me that it's all lies.....Good to know....LOL. He was a smoker too.

I'm not a smoker but I feel for you guys. Stick with it I know you can do it.
I'm with someone now that was a pack a day+ smoker for 17 years and is trying to quit. I've watch him struggle now for over a month trying to kick it. He is on the patch and gum both. Was doing grrrrreat for the first 3 weeks then fell off the wagon. Got him back on track last week but notice a pack of cigs in the drawer yesterday evening. He is really having a hard time too, DC. I know you guys can do this.....don't give up and showm' who's boss. Good luck!!!

I took Chantix 4 years ago April 1st. You take the pills and are supossed to pick a quit date within 7 days of your start date. I quit on the 7th day. I never smoked another one . I only took the pills for about 4 weeks then I stopped taking them. You are supossed to take them for 3 months but I quit after a month. Side affects were not bad . A couple screwy dreams. It is like I never smoked before. I smoked for 22 years 2 packs a day. Ask your doctor about it IT WORKS! I also beleive you have to Really Want to quit! The moment I new I wanted to quit I was deer Hunting in the Mountains in Pennsylvania and my sons had to wait for me because I could not breath. That was enough! I feel alot better and can breath better hiking around . Still not able to breath like they can. though. I guess I have already done the damage! GOOD LUCK! YOU CAN DO THIS!
