    The new rig!

just wanted to throw a pic of the new rig out there, i'm very happy with her. I downsized from a 28' Pursuit to the 23' DV Parker. I think the Parker will be a smart fit for me. But then again, the smartest thing to do is to not have your own boat, but have a buddy who has a boat right?! One interesting part about this boat is that the forward fish box has a drain that goes right out the bottom of the boat. Anyone ever deal with one of these? She'll most likely sit in Cape May this summer so if anyone ever wants to fish just give a shout. Here's to a good season and meeting some new faces! tight lines everyone

A friend here on the board has one and he cleans it with Orpine and then Clorox to keep the bacteria and mold down.

the parkers,i believe are on eof the best built boats on the market today.i repaired one,a few seasons ago,the boat popped off the trailer and slid down the parkway@65mph...the hit that rig took, was pretty hard,a lesser made rig would've been toothpicks...again,you made a good choice !! good luck with it

    My SeaPro has...

...both fish boxes, a livewell, a stern locker and an anchor locker that drain via through-hulls that are all below water line. The anchor locker through-hull is near the bow and quite a bit below the water line.

I know there's lots of boats with below water line through-hull fittings. And, I don't mean to seem unnecessarily alarmist. But those things have been a constant worry to me.

Once on a fishing trip offshore a through-hull barb broke off with the hose attached. That put enough water in the boat that had I not had a high water alarm on my automatic bilge pump switch the boat would have likely settled and maybe swamped or worse.

The anchor "bucket" for the anchor locker seems to fill in a rough sea and because it's not sealed at the top and below the deck (I need to put some foam sealant in it, I guess) rough seas put water in the bilge. I don't like it at all.

I threaded the plastic through-hulls from the outside and I put 3/8" pipe plugs into them before I go offshore now. No more leaking into the bilge and if a hose barb breaks off it's no worry, the through-hull's sealed off from the outside.

When I get back in the driveway, I take the plugs out and let the boxes drain.

This worked OK for a while but over time the plastic through-hull's became weakened, I guess due to the sun, and the threads I'd cut into the neck of the through-hull began to degrade into a chalk. Then the plugs wouldn't hold.

There's another problem with my fish boxes being open to the sea through a through-hull. The boxes are lower than the wave height on even a slightly rough day. If the through-hull is open to the sea the fish boxes fill with sea water. If the boxes had ice in them (and maybe fish) the ice melts pretty darned quick during the Texas summer and the fish spoil (only made that mistake once).

The boxes and lockers came with a little plug to put into the bottom of the boxes and in the drain hole (interestingly enough another through-hull fitting but used in the bottom of the boxes instead). Worthless. Completely worthless. Comes out all the time and allows sea water to infiltrate the boxes and lockers.

So, I've thought of and have posted here about just glassing the darned things over. I'm still considering this and just allowing the boxes to drain into the bilge or just sealing the bottoms of the boxes and lockers completely and, if they need to be cleaned out doing so with a bailing bucket and then towels once back from fishing and in the drive.

If I can avoid it, I'm never going to buy a boat again with below water through-hull fittings.

Thanks everyone, i'm trying to get her home and ready for the season. I'm even trying to take her down to NC and crush the jigging scene for a few days.
