    New Jersey getting tough

State marine conservation officers boarded 2 Atlantic city head boats issuing tickets for undersized seabass and tog and exceeding bag limits.
The seized 400 seabass and 26 tog. Fines could be as high as $30 per fish.
    Sea bass reg
25 fish per angler minimun 12 inches
    Tog reg
4 per angler 14 inch minimum
Lately fines has been issued for
221 sea bass from a Cape May Headboat
2 people clamming at night in Shark River. Nightime clamming is illegal. ( i GUESS CLAMS NEED THEIR SLEEP)
Crab pots untended in Lakes Bay for more than 72 hours.
3 seizures of monkfish for overfishing by commercial boats
1 scalloper in Cape May fined for being over the limit.

They evidently are going to be tough on charter and head boats this year

OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH a whole $30 bucks a fish wow. Considering a cell phone ticket is $100, and a seatbelt is $75, big fucking deal. It should be $1000 then you would get some reaction, especially from a headboat.

Good to see I was wondering if you Jersey guys had any enforcement at all.

Now if we can just continue to turn as many head boats & charter boats in on the DE side of the DE Bay it will be good. Someday they will learn that you can't keep short flounder.

Well I hate to say this but rules are rules. Hopefully people will not bring in undersized fish anymore.

    $30X 426 fish= $12,780..... Seems like a good fine to me!

Glad to see them get caught though!

The problem is the fines are not stiff enough thats why they dont care if they
get caught, they just pay the fines it really doesnt hurt them so you would
think this goes on all the time

Being that it is 25 bag limit per angler they were probably over by alot less than 400 fish, probably more like 50 fish, but if you do that everyday, it adds up fast. The headboats complain about needing to keep fares happy, when they aren't going to have any fares in yrs to come when there isn't anything left to catch. Great logic, penny wise dollar foolish, gotta love the short sightedness of it all.
