Anthony's Ark is a blowboater
new homemade lure
During the winter i have been making my own trolling lures. This is todays (the first for 2008). Designed to go on the rigger and snake just below surface. As you can see our cat was interested (paws in photo). Size is 16" long but i'll trim some of the skirt when i rig it.

That'll work! What are you using for resin?

two part from craft store. Its for making paperweights and stuff but works quite well for lures. Have been using it for about 2 years. So far have caught dolphin, tuna, sails, and blue marlin on homemade stuff.

I've used that same casting resin on some of my lures. My only complaint is that it's kind of brittle. Couple of whacks from a bill and they sometimes crack! I'm experimenting now with a polyurethane that seems much more durable and is optically clear.

Here are a few I made and had great success with in Cabo...

It's like catching a fish on a fly you tied, or a rod you made, or better yet both at the same time!
Good winter thread Tabasco. As mentioned, I'm experimenting with some new material for the resin head. Great results so far. I use everything from plastic cigar cases to old pill bottles for the mold depending on the rough size and shape I'm after.
I'll post a detailed "how to" at some point. Or better yet, Tabasco, why don't you start? Since there are lots of different ways to do this and tips/tricks I can fill in the blanks. It's pretty simple once you break it down though...
