FDA approves sunscreen called "best in the world"

Mexoryl SX just won F.D.A. approval today and will be sold in a product called Anthelios SX. L'oreal says it will be available starting this fall.

Mexoryl SX has been available in Europe since 1993 and more recently in Canada. According to Dr. Peter Lee, a University of Minnesota dermatologist, "It's considered the best sunscreen available in the world."

Lee says while U.S. sunscreens protect you well from UVB rays, good UVA protection is harder to get. Mexoryl SX provides UVA protection and its UVA rays that are more likely to cause the more life-threatening kind of skin cancer, melanoma.

UVA rays also penetrate the skin more deeply and are not blocked by clouds or even windows. So Lee says, "It's important you are using sun block when you are inside or in a car to block out UVA."

One other plus to Mexoryl SX is it will allow your body to better absorb vitamin D than some other UVA blockers on the market. Lee says, "This product will eliminate a lot of the discussion out there about whether sunscreen is good for you or bad for you."

Mexoryl SX also doesn't deteriorate in the sun as fast as current UVA blockers on the market and Lee says it blocks out a wider spectrum of UVA light.

He says many dermatologists who are aware of Mexoryl SX already use it by ordering it through the internet.

Well until that comes out, my dermatologist says this is the best stuff on the market right now. http://www.neutrogena.com/ProductsDetails_329.asp He says the helioplex is the stuff you need now.
