    Need some help

Lately I have been tossing around the idea of bailing on my current career in finance to pursue something in the maritime industry. If need be, overseas.

Is there someone who can point me in the right direction here?

I hold a OUPV License with Drug Card. BA in Finance. Bunch of other stuff.

I've been on and around the water since i was 5. Staying in the fishing industry would be cool, but i would consider marine surveyor, etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

PS: Like i said, overseas is not a problem.

    Bad Time to Change Occupation's?,

Some may wisely say yes, but I say there's no time like the present. Besides that the idea of alway's wondering "what if" doesn't tickle my fancy much. Jay, can you be just a little more specific, what do you REALLY want to do? When you can answer that question and if you have the desire to see it through, the rest will be history. Look I don't know "jack" about finance and you may find that it'll be apart of your life that you leave behind to pursue what you really want to do.
I've said it before on these very pages, "if the Lord call's me home tommorrow, it's been a great ride". In my own opinion (and yes I've practiced what I preach) a man can't live a very fullfilled life through the eye's of someone else. You will no doubt figure this out and be happier for it. Give me a shout. Frank

Guys do pretty good up my way being a TowBoatUS guy. People breaking down and "running out of gas," keep them hopping to the tune of $150 an hour, at least, plus no problem collecting, just submit your bill. Diesel mechanic would be another idea, you can name your price in the Newburyport area, and make a great living just doing oil changes for reasonable price...

    Jay,

I've been in the finance industry for 10yrs. I just left a few months ago to pursue something else. I not sure what that is yet, but I'll let you know when I do With all the stuff going down on wall street and the firm I worked for my heart just wasn't in it anymore.

My heart is being on the water. I have been traveling alot since I left and have looked into some jobs in the fishing industry in other countries. For me at this point its not about the money, I've even offered to be a free deck hand on a few boats in Costa Rica. They said it was so slow there right now they didn't even need free help!! Maybe I just suck.

I too will continue to look for work in the marine industry, it just seems the economy is so bad everywhere and work is hard to come by in this industry. I hope I am wrong and things turn around. I wish you the best of luck and just make sure your happy in whatever you do!!

    Mike

Well, being a financial guy, you could maybe put together about a million to buy a nice bonefishing lodge here in the Turks and Caicos, and run that full time.

I know where one is for sale, which could be up and running in a few weeks of effort...
