I just researched a bunch of these for a xmas present and ended up buying the Garmin 330. I think most prefer the Garmin software over the TomTom. I played with both at a local store and I like the software on the Garmin better. Also look at the Garmin I5 if you whant a smaller model with all the features.

If you want to spend a liitle more get the Garmin 396 that does the XM weather. I use the GPS every day for work and take the unit with me on the boat for the weather and as an emergency GPS. Its a great dual use unit. It has saved my butt several times when the thunderstorms rolled through and we were offshore. I bought it through alltackle.com.

That's for the fore head of the back seat drivers who always tell you to turn here, park there, you missed the turn....LOL

I have the garmin squid has. The only thing I had to upgrade was the flash mem stick.. 128 meg came with the unit.....that is now a card for a camera. I bought a 1 gig card, for-mated(is that a word), for-mated it with the garmin soft ware and can grab detailed maps of the whole east coast......in case I get lost going for milk like ARK does sometimes

Thanks fellas for taking time to post your thoughts.

Based on the feedback, I'm definitely going Garmin. Now the question is
    550, 530, 396, 330 or 2720 or 2730. Too many choices.

If you have a reliable laptop you can buy Microsoft Streets and Trips w/GPS for around $100. It works great.

This is the unit I have. Sears has it on sale from time to time for 249.99
Even at their regular price of $349.99 it is still a bargin.
When this unit first came on the market the price was $800.00

The Dual XNA3550 features an easy to use touch screen graphic interface with MP3 playback capability.
    Turn-by-turn instructions with voice guidance.
    Visual left/right LED indicators.
3D Map view level. Selectable map view. Start route guidance search by:- Address/intersection- Points of interest- Address book- Recent destination. GPS status indicator.
This comes with a quick start manual, but you can go to their website and view or download their extensive users manual.

Programming in destinations is quick and easy.
