I am also looking into cameras as well. I don't have the $$$ for the higher models. I am a Canon fan so I haven't really looked at the Nikons. The newer models take HD video as well now. Cool feature but not sure how many movies I will be taking the SLR. I am leaning towards the Canon T1i. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Forget the video. The autofocus does not work when shooting video. The new Rebel looks like it has a lot of great features.

JMiner...learn about exposure and depth of field. Shooting auto all the time does not produce the best results.

Fast lenses will enable you to stop action in lower light conditions but the depth of field (area in focus) will be very shallow with the lens wide open. Stop the lens down a few clicks for better depth of field and sharper pictures.
