Need help with spinning reel problem...

    Hi all!

I have an Abu Garcia spinning reel that is driving me nuts. On Saturday after fishing all morning I was packing up and the bale became disconnected from the arm that holds the winding spool. The screw that holds the little winding spool was a little loose so I tightened it but the bale arm will not stay in the hole that is supposed to hold it. It doesn't appear that there's anything to hold that bale in there. Does anyone know the proper way of making the bale stay on? - Before I go nuts with some epoxy...

    HELP! Please!

    My suggestion...

is an "offshore overhaul" of any coffee grinder on the boat and then switch to conventional...they are made to break, ALL OF THEM...

depending on what you use it for i would either call a local shop and have them look at it or just cut the bail off and keep the roller and go with a bailess set up.. they are awesome.. one you go bailless you will never go back!!!!!!!!

Sounds like its held in by spring tension squeeze the bail and then gently stretch it to get in the hole, or something broke off whats the make and model that will help alot.

I noticed that most of my spinning reels have the same kind of config. They have a phillips screw on the outside of the roller arm and a stud that goes through the roller on the other side. The studs always seem to have a dimple in them. I put the darn thing together and rapped it with a small punch and hammer and it seems to be holding strong - for now. If that doesn't workI might have to resort to epoxy or trying the bale-less suggestion. Never thought of that one. Do a lot of folks use bale-less reels? I've never seen one..

BTW the model is BRS92/5 (1130207)

i know a lot of guys who have gone to the bailless configuration along with myself on several of my spining reels on the beach.. if you think about it you dont have to worry about it locking down. catching it.. and you dont have to worry about free spooling off the beach.. now if your on the boat it can be a little tough with a strong fighting fish but i do use the van staals on stand up rods for tuna fishing...

    Just a thought

Some of the "older" reels I have, had the end of the bail, "flared" on the ends. " It just looks like they put it in a vise & squeezed it to stay in it's proper location.
Don't know if this helps, but, I thought of that.

If that,"flared end broke off", yer screwed!
