Need Help - Arrigoni Leaning Post - IGFA Compliant?

Guys, I need some feedback here. We are entering the Monster Shark tournament next week, which follows IGFA rules. I need to know if our Arrigoni Leaning Post fighting station complies with IGFA rules. Any feedback here is much appreciated.

We have an older model but it is similar to the picture of Arrigoni's current offering:

I would call the tourney director and ask this question. Many tournaments have different regs.

I owned an Arrigoni leaning post and IMO, I would say that it would fall into the same classification as a fighting chair.

    Good luck!

Thanks very much JD... that's a good idea.

I think we are going to modify the leaning post by a) removing the pin (no brainer) and b) cutting the leading metal ring. This will prevent the angler from being able to rest the rod.

I agree with you that it should be in the same category as a fighting chair.

    I would def ask

That post is not IGFA legal

The rod needs to be able to completly fall forward with out any resting points

Fishing a tourney a few years back for billfish and they made us leave the gimble at the dock or they were going to DQ us as soon as we landed ??

It would be like fighting a fish from the arm of a chair out of the striking rod holder

Call The Vendor, ask him direct?

They must know what the status is and I believe he was at the RI show a couple years ago and was asking how to go aboout getting the leaning post IGFA compliant if I remember right?
I would think not by looking at it but maybe you can modify it?

Better off using a nice OTR harness and smitty belt...stand-up em baby

    Wow ain't that something

The Nantucket Billfish comittee made us remove the gimbel so that we could not use it at all

They said that you could rest the rod and it would make it an unfair advantage

John, thank you very much for your help... and thanks JW and Poon Man for your feedback.

I think we are going to cut the front off and leave the pin at the dock, just to be safe and avoid any possible conflict. That way we can always use it with the pin in the future if we want the "rest the rod" advantage. I am concerned that despite the owner saying it is IGFA approved, someone could easily claim you can rest the rod forward (because in fact you can do so).

This post is so much less taxing on the angler then fighting stand up - I really want to have it available.
