That was pretty easy to figure out with all those things he had running and I'll bet it sure was nice to keep the fridge cold and fans running plus lights and TV! Two guys here at the shop ordered units today after coming by during the weekend borrowing ice and cold beer (thankgoodness I stocked up!). Seems someone in their infinite wisdom thinks we should stay cold-sober after a storm while the linemen finish their work (THANKS GUYS!!!). There actually three town police guarding the beer coolers at the local corner store Sunday evening turning people away. Guess the looters were more dangerous to deal with than the average Joe wanting a cold one after listening to the griping about curling irons.
On a sad note, there was a bunch of looting on Atlantic Beach/ Pine Knoll Shores. I know three families who had to sit in line at the bridge while "ASSessors" were surveying to find their houses were pillaged when they were finally allowed back. Wish I would have returned home to catch them in the process, I promise it wouldn't have added to the court docket!
Sounds as if it's "over taxed" Mr W. I once had a 7500 inverter in my truck that performed flawlessly... coffee maker, misc electronics, etc... until that one fateful day. I was shrink wrapping some electronic connections on The Crypt. Decided to plug the heat gun via an extension cord from my truck down to the boat for power. I thought it would be a better idea than cranking up the boat's power since I was working on the boat's electronics. Anyway, the second I fired up the heat gun... POW.... no more inverter, no heat from gun. It fried the fuse and smoked the internals in a second.
Tell the ladies, one at a time with only one thing running.... you are in a "Bug In" situation and "survival" is paramount. Check your fuses close and maybe try a little foil around the fuse to see if you can get it running. Then go easy.
For cooking, I suggest a fire outside... you won't be in the dark for ever, so use this as an opportunity to see how you do when the SHTF next year.
