Need A computer genius...MAYDAY!!!
Ok in another thread I pointed out that my day is going about as shitty as can be... Never mind all the other stuff. I can take a couple aspirin for my busted up leg. Mom will get a new cat. I'll get a new congressman, there will be other days to hunt...I'm really bugged by whats cooking with my home computer...
Here goes...
Mini went to use hers on Saturday... DSL is dead... Call provider, Bellsouth... They give her an automated number to call and to leave a message...
Nobody calls back... I get involved... Account suspended for sending several thousand pieces of spam
... I'm thinking "Phish" ...call their security and blow up on them... Nope not email address phish... Somebody somehow grabbed my isp number?????
They tell me that the unit was on round the clock and sending spam since before I left... I shut down my stuff before leaving and even killed the power.... Mini needed each time she wanted to use hers to go turn power on to wireless DSL... Mrs Deep Cheap shut the power down between sessions.
Heres where it gets weird. Bellsouth shows that isp# has been on withoutr break for almost two weeks?????????
How does that work? We ran a battery of virus, conectivity, spyware, open port tests and both computers showed 100% clean... Now I'm baffled. Any ideas of what the hell is going on? Any suggestions to protect against it? The wireless is encrypted and was even power unplugged...

Internet Marketing and Consulting
Deep I have some friends in the interenet biz and this is what they said.
(07:03 PM) :
no idea seems somewhat impossible
(07:03 PM) :
if everything including the wireless was unplugged
(07:04 PM) :
i'd blow up at bellsouth and tell them to do more research before they f@ck up
me(07:04 PM) :
ya i was thinking that myself
(07:04 PM) :
seems the made a mistake
(07:04 PM) :
but if you find out it was a virus or something
(07:04 PM) :
i want it
So basicly tell them they are wrong if the modem was unplugged during these times there is no way you were jacked.
But if you power was on and your comps were on people coulld have been mailing through your machine 24 /7
But then again most isp's have limits on the amounts of mail they allow through. I would think your account would have been killed in hours not weeks.

Basically i told them they were out of their F*****G tree... Unplugged is unplugged... Really crawled up their ass that they just shut it down with no contact then no response for 72+ hours... Mini missed a homework assignment because of it. I demaneded a written explanation and the head guy at the decurity section insisted that I sent it my self. When I told him I was in Jersey he said "bullshit"... Then I told hime to call me at the Jersey number and he backed off...
The spam was for some human growth hormone ... He tracked the main ring to Beijing China!
Even came up with a contact man and telephone number...
So how does someone from frigging china grab my ip# ? He couldn't explain either...

I needed to put a condom over the phone so I didn't get "hearing aids" from that "ass hole"...
I had more complaints against me than a John Eppenheimer web site!

cracked first WEP
I cracked my own 128-bit WEP encryption today with 400,000 IV's and 8 minutes of guessing...this is my first attempt and I found it's just way too easy, my router doesn't support WPA so I'm I out of look for more security?
128 bit on some routers is crap....what router do you have?....linksys?
this tid bit was taken from a well known fourm on wireless security.....go figure
good luck deep c

Without letting the cat out of the bag...it isn't hard to hijack an IP Address (I think this is what you are referring to). If they are saying that spam emails are orginating from your IP address, here are two things to do:
1) Change it...but you'll need to change it with your ISP as well
2) If spam emails are coming from your account, in your address book, set up an email address as follows: 1aaaaaa@a.aa and send an email to it...it will be returned undeliverable, but registers it in your outgoing/sent messages.
Here's what happens...spam/virus writers write code that automatically replicates to your sent / outgoing mail...because of the structure of the email address, it will try to sent it to that email address first and because it can send...it stops all but the best of malicious code. Be sure to put it in your address book as well, because some of the virus writers use the address book to replicate.
If this doesn't help...seek professional advice
