North Jersey is one of the most expensive places to live in the Country, However southern New Jersey is cheaper in everything and a little more laid back. My father is a builder in Vineland a which is 2 hours south of Raritan, 40 from Philadelphia and Atlantic city. A house he builds for 400,000 would cost 700,00-800,000 in Northern NJ. Also Vineland has a pretty strong Puerto Rican population. If you decide on a job in NJ or Philly area shoot me a message.
You can look in northern ocean county and find some decent places in the 300k range which is about half hour from raritan. and pay 2500 for 25' slip on manasqaan next to inlet
So, I pay 1000 mortgage for a 1900 sq feet apt..nice 3bath 3 bed, 2 story unit....around 300 monthly for dry storage of the boat....(all year)..diesel about 2.50 a gal, 2.65 gal of gas, around 500 month for a 2000 27ft wellcraft....i will have to crunch a lot of numbers to really consider moving up north...... salary situation, not bad......and also, i fix most of my stuff.....which helps save a gazillion considering labor work rates!....so.... basically, to keep it like this I will need like 200K/yr salary, right??

opinions on the analysis please
A 3 bed townhouse in the same area will cost about $400k. I don't know what the taxes would be, but you'll have association fees on top of it. Look at Realtor.com for prices.
I wouldn't recommend a north-south commute in north Jersey. The only tolerable drive is on the NJ Tpk. Forget about the Garden State Pkwy or I-287. The area you're talking about is only accessed by the GSPkwy or I-287. I would recommend living nearby. I drive the NJTpk from Monmouth Co. to Jersey City nearly everyday. 55 miles one-way. It now takes 90 minutes regularly and that's on a good day.
You can get dry rack storage at some marinas. Call Manasquan River Club for rates.
Surf bum is sounding better everyday.
