I remember when ours came up as an idea. Redfish and snook hatcheries were promised. They were going to buy up wetland property to keep nurseries were in tact. Stocking programs, fresh water diversion instead of dumping into our salt areas. All hogwash! The first years proceeds went only to building a force to enforce the license and hand out tickets for just that. After that not a single cent has gone to the fish. They have our names and addresses now and they keep adding new "stamps" that you need to add to the license if you want to fish or dive for most anything. Now they tack on $800 for charter, another $200 for guiding on private boats, $50 if I want to sell a thing. $75 city, another $75 county. All on top of my personal $89 licnse. So much for $17 which it originally was...
Uncle sam is no better. I remember the original free tuna permits. Now its $25 for an HMS, another $50 for the dolphin/ wahoo, another $50 to identify yourself as the one attached to the othe other. What's that? Oh you want to stay being a captain? When I got my ticket it was free, we had public health coverage and after five renewals we were supposed tobe grandfathered in for life. Nowits $95 + all kinds of medical and drug testing fees and the new port Id for another $135. Its friggin criminal...
I used to be proud to be American but more and more I see less and less benefit in it...

    Should you want to know.

The Wal-Mart on Rt40 in New Castle Del. has the license. Don,t forget your boat registration # . Won't sell it to you without it or Documentation #.

Does anyone know if this is the case in the Delaware Bay??? Will New Jersey port boats need a license if they fish on the Delaware side?

Yes you will. If you get near a reef site or brown shoal or over w/ the drum fleets in the coral beds you WILL get checked too.

Just Great....knowing in our great state of NJ, our greatest ally in boating/fishing, Senator Jim Saxton is stepping down. We'll have a SW license here soon too.

I am assuming this requirement ends at the 3 mile demarcation line for inshore/offshore fishing??? or will I need a DE license to fish say 5 miles off Indian River inlet?

Is it available online? or do we have to drive to Delaware to get one? Can you get a boat license? or does it have to be per individual on your boat?

Saxton is a loss to the whole fishing community beyond even New Jersey. He's definitely been one of the best in recent times when it comes to helping recreational fishing.

Three miles is the state line, I would think that since it's federal waters that you don't have to have it but it's probably not worth the hassle as the law is always as the officer writing the ticket sees it. You can get a boat license, it's $40 for 20' and under and $50 for those over 20' and it covers anyone onboard. Charter boats cost $150 for residents and $300 for non-residents. You can get individual permits online, but the boat permits are too complicated for their software and are an in-person deal only.

    Thanks...answers it all.

Not only will it cost $50 for the boat, it'll cost $50 in gas and $3 toll to go get one.....that's a real kick in the pants.

At 30 gallons per hour, now I'm paying about $500 for my first Drumfish.....hope the fishin's good this year....maybe I better go to Carlson's and buy some at $8 / lb.

I love when govt. makes a new law/fee that is user friendly

As Bryan mentioned earlier, I wouldn't have too much problem IF the money was going back into the system earmarked for us.

The problem is in NJ EVERYTHING goes into the general fund. Remember, we are one of the states that can't claim NJ road tax on our boat fuel.

Between the lower bag limits and the increasing cost of fishing without these additional fees, I forsee an increase in "illegal" fishing in the future.
