I have to throw my two cents in about Pelagic Gear. A shirt is a shirt! They will all fade, get stained, and eventually wear out. But the shorts ROCK!!! They are the best shorts around for fishing (and yes some have belt loops). The shorts are easy to clean and rarely stain. You can wear these shorts all day, get the bloody, sweaty, and what have you, throw them in the wash and let them air dry for about 30 min and they are brand new. Once regular shorts get blood on them they are stained forever and you look like a slob.

This thread is fantastic! I've three pelagic visors; one in the truck, one in my car, and one on the boat. They are pelagic because that's what my daughter thought i'd like for my birthday! I switched from hats to visors because @ 56 yrs. old I STILL HAVE HAIR AND PLENTY OF IT! (nothing personal you understand to the follically challenged). There is enough ego and one upmenship in this sport to go around. I had potential cutomers look to other boats when i chartered on the cheapeake because my rig was not loaded with electronics. Hell i learned without electronics!!! Now it's the gold reels or the accurates or the custom rods!
I have a limited buget and i buy tackle and service it like it's a lifetime invesment BECAUSE IT IS! You should ALWAYS buy the best quality that YOU can afford. I own 2 that's 2 gold reels; one a trinidad that my wife gave me as a 25th wedding anniv present and a penn int'l 20 that i got at a yard sale on an alum butt rod for $120! I love them both along with several TLDs and Senatores and assorted spinners. I catch fish and when i hook something worth posting Ill tell you about it.(if I have the camera with me ) Having experience is what I think you share
(among other things) when you guide or charter. Having confidence( not hell bent for leather macho stupidity) in your rig, tackle and game plan is what puts the fish in the box. Weathter you catch them on black, gold ,silver or what ever color reel. There are some great rod builders out there and if you really can afford them you are making a wise choice especially if they are on this site 'cause that will come back to you! Capt Josh just my opinion i have fished Shimnno Stellas and Van stalls, i wish i owned a couple of both, i don't think(just my humble opinion) accurate will ever equal either of them! Thanks for the space guys let's keep talking.

    Whoa Nelly

I would just like to ask Chum:

Did you call the Accurate factory about your issue?
Would you like me to assist you in any fashion with that issue?

It is apparant you have a new version and while I am not paid by them I am on their Pro Staff program and would be happy to assist you. I have been running a similar model on Seaker for several seasons and will report no issues to you with SBFT, YFT, Mahi, Mako and Blue sharks.

    Kindly advise
    Captain Vin

As stated earlier.. the only disagreement i have.. is the TREVALA RODS..
Best rods ive seen in a long time. I MEAN LARRY DAHLBERG CAUGHT A 400LB CAT ON A MED HEAVY!

I have to say after trying it, and catching over 30 40lb-60lb drum on this rod, it is the best inshore for bottom fishing, jigging, drifting, and trolling by far.. YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK.. Does it make me a better fisherman? I dont know.. but it has changed the way i fish.. And as light as these rods are, they will pick an AMBERJACK off of his feet like a fork lift..

Havnt tried the jigs yet, the reels, or the clothes.. But that rod is bad..

Heck, I'll answer for Squiddly here....cause it's just ain't nearly as fun calling some manufacturer and telling them how they can improve their product as it is making light of it on this forum!!

And what's up with those stupid Pelagic shorts....they have NO freaking pockets!!!! I don't want some flap, I want some dang pockets! Accurate reels...good Lord, have to take out a second mortgage and for what...an over engineered piece of crap that you need a jackhammer to turn the clicker on and off with. Fluoro, stiff as a board with too much memory and I just haven't had the additional success using it and I have used it trolling...chunking may be a different story. I do believe the butterfly style jigs are pretty effective and have a couple on the boat for when we mark bait and/or tunas deep.

I quite honestly wouldn't notice pelagic gear or anything else another man chooses to wear. Just not something I give a shit about.

    Josh, disappointed in you

    In Squiddly's defense

I’m disappointed in you. You answered Squiddly’s points #1, #2 & #4 with a degree of professional opinionism and then set out to attack him about Pelagic. His rant about Pelagic is the only one where he does not say anything negative about the company's product itself. We all know clothes don’t help you catch fish; he just asked questions like “I don’t get it?” & “Does it make you look cool?”

Did you ever watch the movie “Big” with Tom Hanks when he’s in a room of toy execs and they are explaining what a new toy does? Tom Hanks just simply says “I don’t get it” and the room erupts because no one can give him an answer as to why it is a good toy!!!! Like in the movie you didn’t have a solid answer so you choose to attack him personally.

What I find amazing is when hitting on those very people that support you financially (whether it is product, promotion or monetarily) you go on to belittle him instead of providing facts. And that you go on to thrash your sponsors competition (Aftco & Guy Harvey) as a matter of fact in a public forum like this is a case of poor judgment on your part.

Just one more thing, I'm glad you made the point clear to everyone that being on a Pro Team is about who gives you the most ".....promotions, equipment, exposure, video, print, ESPN, you name it...we're talking a LOT more than just a few shirts and hats amigo..." - and not whether the product is any good at all!!!!

This is an interesting thread, and I'll throw my opinions into the mix-

Pelagic gear- hell you've got to wear something, who cares what it is as long as it's comfortable on you.

Butterfly jigs- if you can afford them, why not? They catch fish. If you can't afford them, buy a cheaper kind- they'll catch fish too.

Visor, hat- hell strap a lamp shade on your head if it helps you see better

Flourocarbon- you all would know about the troll game better than me, but I will tell you that if you chunk for tuna, you'd best be using flouro or you'll have a looooong boring day.

Accurate- I've got to tell you, I caught a 500+ pound giant on a 50W last summer and the drag was smoooooooth and rugged. I can't make a single complaint about it. Could I have done it with a Tiagra- most likely, but what the hell, you've got to try new things, and having that two sided drag to split the pressure and keep it cool was mighty nice.

Looking at all of these replies, I think that it's easy to see why the fishing industry is a billion dollar industry- it seems that there are so many opinions, you'll find someone who will have success with just about everything....except for circle hooks, those things suck
