Bonnie is a great looking pup. Love the "guilty" look with the cat.
Took Hooper down to the pond and let him do some swimming. Just when I think I've seen it all, he show's me something different. Today's "side splitter" was Hooper swimming/dog paddle/water treading trick. Let's just say that he needs to add a little trim when he's powering up, he's riding a bit bow high. I've attached some pictures, but I'm having trouble getting the video's downloaded...stay tuned!!
Goldang, that Bonnie sure is a bonny little lass! Cute as a button.
And old Hooper, he looks like he is having a ball and is dead serious. He is sure becoming a handsome devil!
My Little Shadow Girl is the water weasel of my two blacks. There's a pay-to-fish trout lake in a county park nearby where back when I could still get around I used to go to catch some of the beautiful rainbows they stock there. They averaged two pounds. If I didn't watch her, when I got Little Shadow out of the wagon and took her and Black Bart for a walk along the high bank that surrounds the lake, sooner or later she'd spot a trout swimming along in the shallow water and she'd fly down the bank, leap into the water and nail that fish just about every time! Then she'd charge up the bank and bring me the flopping fish. Naturally, if there were fishermen near where she nailed her trout, some didn't like it much, but most actually got a big kick out of it.
The next stop was the fish cleaning station, where I'd split the fish lengthwise, make sure that there were no hooks in it, and then feed it, head, guts and all to the kids. Some of those fish were three pounders! Not a bit was left after my sushi eaters gobbled them down.
I wish that I had gotten some pictures of that, but my health went down a lot faster than I expected and I had to quit driving and even walking much, so there wasn't time to get pictures of the action.
We had a good week of book sales last week and that meant that we saved more doomed Labbies. It feels very good to do that! Thanks to any here who helped us in that. It will continue after I am gone. If you know the story, thank Shadow Girl, not me for those rescues.
I am not sharing this elsewhere, but Captain Len (Big Game Journal) Belcaro, another Lab Lover, can confirm that there is a very good chance that Shadow Girl and our novel that she helped my write, Grim Ripper, is going to become a major motion picture. The showbiz people, and we are talking heavy hitters here, believe that it will be a major blockbuster. We will know very shortly, one way or another.
If it happens, and I refuse to believe that it will until the contract is signed, it will be incredibly good news for Shadow Girl's clan, our Lab friends, because just as it is with the book, 25% of the proceeds that come to me or my estate will be donated to Lab Rescue in perpetuity.
Oh, my God, will those tails of all of our great friends who have left us and are waiting for us up at Rainbow Bridge be thumping away like a thundering herd if this happens? You betcha they will!
Those who know me well know that money means almost nothing to me personally. And besides, I will not be around long enough to spend it if this movie thing does what it looks like it's going to do. But just the thought that a great number of otherwise doomed Labs will be saved and will get to share their lives and love with families, and kids, and old people too is more than enough for me.
To this day, I absolutely believe that my beloved Shadow Girl was sent here by a higher power to help me write that book and to do what I am doing now.
Thanks, sweet darlin'. I still miss you bad, good girl.
Pet them puppies for me, folks. And don't forget those crotchy old ones, either. And please, keep posting pictures of your kids!
Hooper looks GREAT!!!!
Chopper had a little trouble with the swimming thing at first too. His front paws were coming out of the water... it was pretty damn funny.
The swimming will come along especially if Hooper and Chopper like the water... We took Koa to the mountains this weekend - her first time swimming in moving streams - it was really cool to see her use the broom tail as a rudder and ferry across the river...
She might be a little timid when she first gets to the water's edge, but once she is wet, it's game on...
Sorry - no pics![]()
