In case you haven’t heard, NYS is considering eliminating the use of any live bait that is otherwise regulated by the NYSDEC. This issue could have far reaching effects and stop the use of just about all live baits. Everything from bunker, to porgy, to herring as well as live eels are regulated, meaning all could be banned as live bait. Bluefish are also regulated by the state and they to could be banned as live shark baits.

This discussion is still in the early stages and it will be addressed at the next MRAC meeting in NY, but if you’re one of the many anglers that enjoy using live bait, you may want to keep a close eye on this one.
