here's a look at another fishery out here in california...it's called 'livefishing'...simply put, you keep the fish alive all the way to market...in this case the markets are in san francisco..that means unloading into tanks on my truck and driving the 240 miles north to market..this is a permit fishery with very few permits and very strict quotas.
we fish out of a 12' skiff in tight to the rocks and use a bigger boat as a mother ship anchored outside the reef.
the Taurus anchored outside the reef
we set small 3 hook gangions in the worst possible places you'd ever want to find yourself in...if you look closely, you'll see an orange bouy in that narrow slot...we usually drop about 40 set-ups then run back through the line picking fish...
this little guy isn't line shy one bit...called Cabezon...they have to be 15" to keep...this little one went back to grow..kept alive, they fetch around $10 lb at market.
i'm holding a fifty dollar bill in each hand...grass rockfish around $15 lb.
approaching pt.sal from the south...a fair anchorage if we're going to fish the following day.
a closer look at '****' rock while at anchor.
i hope you enjoyed the pics
