Anyone else think the "Stimulus" is nothing but a new name for taxes???

If you have $1000 in the bank yesterday, today it is worth half... but don't feel bad, at least you'll get a "stimulus check" of $500+/- (with a net worth of $250+/-) to offset your loss...leaving you a net worth of a declining $750.00... hell of a deal isn't it???

Anyone else noticing the "media" talking heads using the word "Socialism" more and more with each passing day, when we are just sitting here accepting this crap?

we as tax paying citizens of the us need to take back the system.plain and simple.we have allowed this whole mess to spiral out of control,it's not the democratic party and it's not the republican party-it's the whole mess.these people who we elect,to serve us,certainly serve themselves,nothing else.it states "government for the people by the people",does anyone believe this is what we have ???the amount of waste in government is insane,think about this for a second...it costs us,the tax payers approx $190m each year for health care for ilegal aliens coming into this country ???lets' put this another way,there's approx 190m people in the us,that's each person giving $1...scary thought huh ??? it's time for all the insanity to stop,our country gives way too much away every day.$500k for china in the white house ??? how much did mrs pelosie cost us using aircraft ??? this is criminal what we allow these friggin' assholes to get away with,and yes,we allow it...
if anyone thinks this whole stimulus check thing is going to do anything to boost the sagging economy,you're wrong...people are gonna use that money to pay bills,there's not gonna be a dime of that money going into the economy,it's gonna go to utility companies and financial companies-for bills..."buy american",that was discussed on 60 minutes sunday...caterpillar spokesman didn't like it,cat sells 75% of it's equipment overseas,cat made the claim it will hurt them ??? a steel plant in arkansas was featured,clearly,it will help the steel industry-all this is in the economic stimulus package...problem with the "buy american" thing is the cost of union labor...it kills everything...the reason we are getting our asses kicked in the whole trade deficit thing,our labor cost is insane in this country.the unions are killing the manufacturing-so tell me...what do we do ???
our economy is in the toilet,due to the mortgage industry allowing anyone and everyone to get a mortgage,which has resulted in millions of forclosed homes and a big drop in the housing industry,we as a country,manufacture almost nothing,due to the high cost of union labor,we have a government which we,the people who are paying the bill for have no control over,and allow them to throw our money away...the cost of living continues to rise,yet,the money we make remains the same ??? again,so what do we do ???
me...i got a deck i have to glass over,a fuel tank job to finish,and others...this shit is depressing me...

I pick up the phone regularly and call my senators and congressman... Sometimes I get through, sometimes I don't, sometimes I get a form letter in response, sometimes I get a real response or a question back. These elected representitives are a whole lot more accessible than you think.
Like the drop dead gorgeous chick at the bar. Everybody looks in amazement but no one has the balls to make the move. You'ld be surprised at how easy it is. They're people... Not some untouchable icon...
Pick up the phone and get the email flowing. When their lines are jammed and their boxes full, then and only then will they listen. Yes have a tea party. Bring it to them... I can't do it alone and you can't do it alone but together we can start something. This country was founded on revolution and sometimes a revolution is necessary to keep the status quo so get off your collective flabby dead asses and get to bitching direct to those in power...
Don't just vote for the lesser of two evils. Go out and find your own candidate and push him and support him. If you can do better than the wanker in power then get involved and run yourself... My city of Palm Beach Gardens was a corrupt cesspool years ago... The city council pulled a fast one and we finally had enough. We fought like hornets and got screwed. At election time the people wanted to run me for Mayor. I passed the torch to someone more qualified. Every incumbent asshole on that council was shown the side walk. Thats what we all need to do.

kitebuz - the bailout and stimulus bill are two different things entirely. The bailout is the 750 Billion (really more like three times that) that the Fed is authorized to use to generate liquidity. The Stimulus bill is the recently passed 789B economic package intended to create jobs. One is monetary policy, the other economic.

To attempt to assess this unemotionally, it helps to understand the real situation which is indeed very dire. The now well understood problems in the housing market are only the tip of the iceberg. There is massive exposure in several other sectors of the financial markets such as commercial bonds, consumer debt, monoline insurers hedge funds and CDOs. All are tied together thanks to the unregulated web of complex financial instruments created in the last several years. Exposure to the system from the products is 100 times the losses taken already. It is kind of comical in that the total amount of exposure is greater than global GPD. Nobody really knows how bad it will get if the worst case plays out, but it makes hyperinflation look like a walk in the park.

I find it kind of funny when people say the media is overhyping the crisis. Far from it, I think few really understand that we have truly created a situation where there is no 'bottom'. We are staring into the abyss, facing a problem so complex it is truly hard to grasp the situation. If it really starts unwinding as category after category melts our entire financial system will grind to a halt.

The government actions seem like a 'hail mary' approach because they actually are. I believe they are truly the best attempts of the policy makers, albeit a bit sullied by congress, to do the right thing in a moment of real and extreme crisis. To me the best case would be they work and we deal with the unintended consequences later. The worst case is truly unimaginable.

Although it is easier to see a crisis in something like 9/11 and mobilize around it, our current situation is probably a far greater threat to our way of lives.

I look at it this way. So far we have pumped 2 months of GDP into the problem to attempt to insure our entire system as we know it. IMO, the way I see the crisis that is a good trade. We will see how much more it costs and see whether or not it works.
