    Mini's Job Dilemma

Yeah yeah I brag about Mini and why not. Couldn't ask for a more outstanding kid. High school senior, also going to college all kinds of scholarships, scholar awards, enough college credits at the end of this year to be half way through college when she gets there, and working two jobs!

This isn't about all that proud papa stuff though... Last week she got sick for a couple days. I'm not talkin "don't feel good" sick. I'm talkin knocked on her ass bucket next to bed stuff. She called in sick to one of her jobs... A while later she got a text message from one of the girls she actually trained that she doesn't get along with... "Boss said your services are no longer needed here..."
Well aint that a kick in the ass when shes already down. Hell, its a food service business. Whats she supposed to do? Show up and risk making everone sick? Well she has Deep DNA and wasn't gonna let it go that easy...
First a scathing text to her direct manager about it. I'm gonna guess that he had been told she was faking sick by the other *****... Cause thats what his response eluded to. She took a photo of her doctors receipt and prescription and shot that over to him. Things got quiet... She then forwarded all this stuff up to their corporate office...
Now heres where it gets sticky and I really am stuck as to what advice to give. She really couldn't give a shit. Her other job will give her all the hours she wants and bend their schedule around her school and other stuff. She certainly was put off how they handled this mess and would really rather not work for them.
Ok, that seems simple .... BUT.... I guess the owner of the franchise has taken notes on her as she really is an outstanding worker. It seems that he too is unimpressed by the actions of his staff down here cause he's flying down to make things right and wants her to stay on...

So do I tell her to suck it up and give them a second chance or do I tell her to stick to her guns and put her foot up their collective ass? If she goes back I'd imagine there would be heat from her manager about ratting him out (unless he gets fired). If she doesn't go back its an empty spot on the resume to try and explain... I'm stuck... Any wisdom?

Well Paul, you're her dad so all of the advice in the world does'nt really matter. Every parent has their own way of raising their children and there is no right or wrong way.
This being said my observations are as follows--- I wouldn't worry one bit about the :"whole in the resume" thing--- she's a high school kid with a high school kid's job---- it ain't going to get her a key to the executive wash room down the road

The only advice I will give is the 3 things I tell my kids as far as their jobs are concerned: (1) be gratefull you have a job and expect to be given shit work and get nothing but shit in return at your age and position in life--- welcome to the real world. (2) Take only as much shit at work as your honest conscious thinks is right--- making sure you remember #1. (3) Never, ever, under any circumstances burn a bridge in your professional (work) life. You can leave, walk away, be mad to yourself, etc., but nothing will ever be gained by intentionally burning a bridge of a former employer.

All in all, I would tell her she has to decide and do what she thinks is best for her given the 3 points of advice above.
BTW, I've been in your shoes on this very issue---- I have the queen of all teenage queens for a daughter.

A high school restaurant job probably won't cause any issues later in life - but why take chances. If the owner cares enough to make the effort to keep her around, then it would be worth her time to at least listen to him. She can always say no.

You just never know - Sometime later in life she may need a reference and having the owner in her pocket ain't a bad thing...

yeah, ok-i'm sure the owner is flying in just to address the scholar burger flipper. I'm sure it is probablly the ghost of Dave Thomas of Wendys who is now going to make this brain child CEO. Maybe better still, he is going to back her for the next presidential election. So she "took a photo" of doctors note and prescription, yeah that is real convincing, i mean one million other kids havent used that excuse before. "I swear sir, just look at the picture, you can see it" you sound bored over there, go crawl around a bilge or take a shower.

I agree, "never burn a bridge". Blow them the frig up that is what you do. Work for yourself, never work for anyone. if you want mediocrity then by all means interview away. I dont know if a boat driver can lend any insight on career direction or the merits of entrepenurism

    Deep are you for real?

You really need to grow up. I dont remember my dad ever doing this shit. He had 5 kids and knew the faults and qualities of each one. He never looked at my report card. He used to say, "I know you better than anyone, why do I need some dumb teacher telling me what your all about? You got all D's. am I right?" Yea, he was.
But deepy, Im beginning to think you got a hatchet wound where there should be a member. Grow up, your kids not perfect, so she got fired.
My next invention is going to be a bar of soap that a guy takes in the shower, listens to deepy, and........you get the point.
You are one big hand................... ful. It a tough economy, everyone needs a job. Just so you get the joke deepy, Im going to capitalize the word.....JOB!

    Perfectscore,

Can you just imagine the resume that goes with this shit? Two questions come to mind with this mind bending thread by deepy.
    1. do you want fries with that?
    2. do you want to biggy size it?
Deepy, grow up, act like a dad, not some BFF of your daughter. Boy, have we reached the total pussification of America.

I am clueless here. Deep asked a legitimate question asking for advice. Fred and even Glenn gave some sound advice yet two assholes namely perfectscore and Hubris choose to derail his tread. I am having trouble understanding WTF the problem is here. I have raised 3 wonderful children and have often sought advice from others when I have a question as to what to do. I have never gotten an asshoe response such as what I have seen here from a couple of members. If you have a problem with deep take it to the adult section and keep it out of here.
