    Capt. John,

Thank you for saying what I couldn't. You are a stand up guy and I appreciate those that are. The fact is the truth is alway's the truth. I don't care where you came from or your background, we all know right from wrong. If you think "he" can't help it because of where he comes from, you are sadly mistaken. The best point I can come up with at the time is, when someone turn's to being a thief. He know's it's wrong, because he takes action if someone steal's from him. If parent's were parent's, we wouldn't have the issue'swe have now. Be the Father and Mother you're supposed to be now, you can be thier friend's later.
Vick was absolutely wrong for what he took part in. I hope he truely has a change of heart. And yes He does have the opportunity to be a positve instead of a negative model (we all do). I hope he siezes the moment. Frank

I definitley here ya..I have a Yellow Lab that I love to death. And yes, I prefer his company over 95% of people. I work with the public and there are alot of shit-heads out there. That being said, I just think in MV's case, he got such a negative image for dog-fighting, and got a much harsher punishment than he would for harming a person. That I don't agree with. 2 years in prison and being banned from the NFL forever...That's ridiculous. Even if he fought Jake (my dog), I would not agree with that punishment. Again, I am not a Vick fan at all and don't support dog fighting, but lets keep things in perspective.

If you really want to curtail these guys then instate a rule. Spend more then 30 days in jail then you will play for the league minimum for 2 years. spend 6 months in jail you will play for the league minimum for 5 years. Its all about money. Obviously these guys don't respond to any type of rehab or counsuling but I bet they will respond to this when they start showing up to work in a Ford Focus instead of an escalade

well ok, Im an idiot then........I mean no harm the way you take it but I will say this. In this country the best run corporate profile is the NFL! I have said it for years. They could teach any business in this country a thing or two about success. Tony Dundge and the NFL didnt take this on so they could come talk to the Gladwyne Montessori School. Sometimes its a burden always seeing things different than the crowd does but, thats why I like being alone. I applaud the NFL for what they are doing however its a tough subject to talk about without being labeled a racist. Good luck to all involved, time will tell.

I never called you a racist, you brought up race on your own. I said if you believe it's a race issue(which "you" brought up), then you're an idiot. It's an economic issue as far as who's looked up to in what society. If you live in a poorer neighborhood in the city, then without good parenting and a good upbringing, you might see rappers, drug dealers, and thugs as role models. Just as if some rich preppie kid could see someone like Bernie Madoff or any other white collar criminal as a role model. It's not fair to lump people into one group and label them period.
I know plenty of private boat captains making a ton of money and living the good life who have criminal backgrounds, used drugs, etc. Should they not be able to have their jobs in this sport? If that's so, the resume board on here would be 100 pages long pretty quickly.

Who cares ! He served his time. What he did was wrong, but then again you go out and kill fish, right. So do I. People seem to forget the Romans would watch men kill each other for sport. The guy was stupid. The Eagles just picked up a decent 2nd string quarterback and a good replacement if McNabb gets hurt.

Did the NFL season start yet? Vick is 1-0

Vick to Philly students: Resist following crowd
    Associated Press/AP Online

    By JOANN LOVIGLIO
PHILADELPHIA - Michael Vick, speaking to a group of Philadelphia high school students Tuesday, warned against the dangers of peer pressure and offered himself as a cautionary tale of what can happen when someone is a follower instead of a leader.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback addressed a rapt audience of 200 freshmen on their first day at Nueva Esperanza Academy, a North Philadelphia charter school. He urged students to make the right choices and to resist the temptation to follow the crowd.

Vick used his conviction for operating a dogfighting ring as an example of the result of bowing to peer pressure. Speaking without notes, Vick told the students his decisions imperiled the goals he had set for himself since childhood.

"Growing up, I had dreams and I always wanted to have this great, lavish life and make it to the NFL, go and accomplish great things and leave a great legacy. That was my goal from a young kid," Vick said. "My future was promising ... at some point, I got sidetracked. I started listening to my friends and doing some things that were not ethical and not right."

Vick visited the school with Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States.

Once the highest paid player in the NFL, Vick spent 18 months in prison and was suspended from the league following his conviction in August 2007 on charges of conspiracy and organizing the dogfighting ring. He was released from federal custody on July 20 and the Eagles signed him last month.

Several animal rights groups criticized the team's decision to sign the quarterback, saying he is a poor example for young people.

Eagles spokeswoman Pamela Browner-Crawley has said the team has an obligation to the community and work with children particularly, to discourage them from engaging in dogfighting or any animal abuse.

Vick is suspended for the first two games of the regular season. The Eagles have placed him on the exempt list and he cannot practice with the team until Week 3.

In two preseason games, Vick completed 11 of 15 passes for 45 yards with one interception and rushed for 36 yards on eight carries with one touchdown.
